Some K31 Questions

We have sold quite a few of the Swiss made K31 scope mounts that center the scope over the bore. They have an integral case deflector and as long the the bolt is operated smartly there are no ejection problems. They also have a picatinney rail that makes ring selection a little bit easier.

Aluminum is the favorite choice. Hard anodize finish wears better and less prone to scratches and black finish chipping off. Everyone at Swiss Products use the Aluminum on their own rifles.

Awesome info. Now who has some good loading data? I hear GP11 is a 175 grain projectile at about 2550 FPS. Anyone have a load the duplicates it? Or a powder to try and work up a load with? I always have H4831 and Varget on hand.

I have had good luck with IMR4064 with both 150gr and 168gr bullets so far. I started with the 4064 because I have lots on hand for my Garand and it always seems to do well in these old milsurp cartridges.

Okay got my K31 in the mail today.

First impressions: excellent machining, I've never seen such a well put together milsurp. The magazines are well desinged and easy to detach/insert which is a huge bonus for me as I plan to use this rifle in service rifle matches (sometimes the AR-15 gets boring.) I bought the last in stock magazine at the Calgary Shooting Center so I should be good to go for getting all 10 shots in during the rapid.

The bore in mine looks excellent, better than any Enfield or Mosin I've looked through. Holy mother of god, does it have a nice trigger for a milsurp. A slight bit of creep, but incredibly crisp for a military firearm.

Very well thought out and put together firearm, except for my one issue. The bolt kisses my cheek when I cycle it. I normaly shoot prone and it will probably be worse when I'm in prone. I wear glasses so this is a bit of an issue. I'll see if I can work around it, but it's a bit of a bummer because other than that its perfect.

Range report to come on Saturday. I'm reloading 178 grain A-maxs over Varget with new PRIVI brass.

I was wondering if my K31 is considered a good one. 1945 walnut stock, but I don't see any tiger stripes :( Haven't shot it yet.. I need dies! What's the finish? If I want to give it some protection, could I add BLO directly to it? And then some paste wax?

45grs Varget, C.O.L 2.905" with the 178 Amax. I find any more and recoil increases noticeably. Your mileage may vary. 44-45gr Varget is comfortable with no pressure signs in my K31s.

Get used to getting your head off the stock to work the bolt.
You can try to pivot your head out of the way while rolling on you chin so that it still makes contact on the stock. Just keep some pressure on your chin so it can't slap you if anything slides.

Clean up the trigger area.

Looks like that stock has already been refinished. The cartouche is barely visible or gone from what I see. Yes, BLO and Birchwood-Casey stock wax works for me.

Took the old girl out yesterday. Conditions were less than ideal. Windy, probably 50-60 km/h gusts with snow blowing everywhere. Shot 5 round groups two with 44 grains of Varget, two with 44.5 and two with 45. The two with 44.5 grains shot the best, but none had pressure signs.

Very impressed, groups were all less than 1" horizontally, but strung a bit vertically (2"-3"). (My fault I have trouble with vertical stringing with non-aperature iron sights.) Groups were shot from a rest, the two groups with 44.5 grains shot ~0.75 horizontally and ~2" vertically. Smooth action. I like this rifle!
