I was going to post this stuff in bartledans thread but I dont wish to hijack.
Just received this Hunter in .308 from Epps last week, ordered it on a whim just to check it out and must admit I am quite impressed with it. I have owned,hunted and extensively shot three Montanas in various chamberings and a Classic select 84M in the past. After parting ways with those rifles and being without a Kimber for the past three years it was time to get back in the fold and I couldnt be happier.

This rubber recoil pad although plenty soft and supple is where I will shave 2 ounces off this rifle right off the hop. I plan to replace it with a Flip-flop in the spirit of whynot!

Some weird kind of rubber-gel-epoxy they have as filler or sound deadener in the buttstock...havent quite figured this out yet.

I threw together some tried and true 150gr .308 loads for a quick and dirty trip to the range just to see if the rifle had potential, and it was quite promising. With some proper development and range time she will come around!

Best I could do for the day and it ended up being with 125gr Nosler BTs.
The range conditions were less than ideal, I only had my 1.5-5X Bushnell spare scope mounted,blah,blah,blah excuses excuses! ;)

I have not even checked yet, just hastily loaded some 150gr Hornady Interlocks and a few Nosler BTs to mag length and then snowshoed into the range. I had a few Federal Blue-box 150grs to try as well.
I will report back in this thread once the rifle and I have an honest sit down at both the reloading and the shooting bench.

Something worthy of note is that the P.O.I. wandered very little between groups using different bullet profiles,weights and powder types and charges.
All three rounds consecutively in a group were shot with NO cooling period.
Cold bore shots were almost always to the same POI which definitely put a smile on my face.

Looks like it will be an accurate rifle. Nice to see you back in the kimber club. For the price on those rifles, you really can't go wrong.

Yeah right!, usually whenever I handle a factory polymer stock I feel the need to use hand sanitizer but in this case I'll give it a pass. That said, make no mistake that it is still Tupperware and even though the dimensions are very close to the Montana, it has Pillars and the forearm is relatively stiff it is what it is.

With my Pop in his mid-seventies and my 9 year old son and 4 year old daughter tagging along alot of my deer hunting is done in the Bronco these days.
I still get out on foot much of the season but I have to admit the detachable magazine is really proving valuable at this stage in my life.

Epps has bumped their price by about $100.00, so not much difference now between them and shooterschoice.ca whose pricing includes the tax.

Whis someone would post the weight of one of the long actions.

How did you find the bolt? Both of the Kimbers I've had in the past, the bolts wanted to bind if you applied any lateral pressure.
 
So after a little more time with this rifle, how are you liking it? I am thinking of one because of the light weight and the price seems really good, and so far most reviews are very positive. How is the bedding? Does this rifle have pillars? I lie the fact that this rifle comes in two chamber it's I have been wanting to try, 6.5 Creedmore and 280 AI, trouble is deciding which one to buy!

I just happen to have my Kimber apart at the moment as the barreled action is currently at the gunsmiths getting a cut and crown.
Heres some pictures of the stock showing the bedding surface and pillars. That honeycomb pattern you see makes the fore-end quite stiff for a tupperware stock, and will make things interesting when I go to bed it with Devcon in the next couple of weeks.

That is an interesting stock design. The bedding compound will flow nicely into the voids and lock in there. Worse case scenario you might have to bed it twice. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Thanks for the pictures.

You're right Pete, while I do like the idea of the voids for holding the bedding compound, I am concerned with how much weight will be added as it will take a large amount of compound to fill those voids and Devcon 10101 is rather heavy by volume.
The barrel is getting shortened to 20.5" though, so that may slightly offset the large amount of Devcon weight-wise.
Either way I will keep this thread updated.
