What is the difference between a Norinco 2007 and 2009 M14/M305
Is there a quality difference ? Is paying full price for a 2009 better than buying a slightly used 2007 for lets say $150 or so cheaper ?

What is the difference between the standerd SYNTHETIC stock they come out with and USGI Stock that some guys replace it with ?

Ok, scroll up and locate "search" type in Norinco Polytech, select posts from 12 months and newer and select search in battle rifles forum. Now make a sandwich and crack open a beer cuz theres alot of info to read.

Seriously guys... what is the use of a forum if every answer to a question is "go use the search function" ?
I belong to a ton of different forms and its seems with every question being asked that is the standard answer.

How many original questions can possible be asked on a forum that is over 5 years old .... very few.

I have used the search function and have read through all the M14 posts I could find during my 12 hour night shifts for the last 3 days and I have obviously not found anything ( or maybe missed ) to answer my spesific questions.

If you know the answer it wont take you more than a couple of min to post it .... thanks

Hell i got time,
The general concensus seems to be the 09 poly's have nicer overall machining than the 07 norcs and their rear sight is not made of tin. The Polys also seem to have nice TG's with good pulls out of the box.
As for the usgi stocks, they are original and a good choice to replace the norc chu wood stock.
You can throw a little money at an M14 or your life savings, it all depends just how "GI" you want to go. I dont recommend you watch tom cruise yelling "come on charlie mother f***er" in born on the 4th or next thing you know you'll be scraping up parts from the 60's:D

The general consensus is that the 2009 Polytechs are "better" than the 2007 Norcs. Having said that, "better" is a subjective term. The finish seems better, the overall care and attention to detail (such as it is when dealing with an under-motivated communistically inclined laborer) is better, the stocks are better (than Chu wood), many seem to have decent triggers, Hungry says they ping long enough to go get a doughnut, come back, and they're still pinging... Hungry, who is an authority on matters M14 related, wrote a very favorable review recently on the new Polytechs...

I don't think I'm going out on a limb to suggest that you'd be well served to spend the extra $150.00... notwithstanding whatever might have been done to the slightly less expensive Norc (read: if it has any GI parts installed, or has had the gas system unitized, or, or, or... which might make the Norc a "better deal).

Thanks for the replies guys ....
and yes Lazerus200 I did miss that post somehow ....

I still dont really understand what the advantage of the USGI stock is over the Standard synthetic stock ?

The difference: Plastic tupperware vs fiberglass resin made to milspecs.
Lie in wait on the EE in "parts n bits" if you decide you want one.

Forget the forums, here is your M14 info: M14 rifle history and development online edition by Lee Emerson.

You will need a few more sandwiches and a six pack to get through this one.
