I figured this would probably get more interest here than in the Ammo forum.

My Dad gave me some 7.62x54R this last weekend, here's some of the more interesting finds in it.

This one was a new one to me, Hungarian steel-cased with what looks to be a very light bullet. Headstamp 21 over 51 or 61.

Middle Eastern of some sort, brass cased.

Brass cased Chinese, on brass chargers, 71 over 55. 3 clips to a string-wrapped paper packet.

Soviet match ammo, or rather just the box. Must have been shot off years ago.

Surplus ammo wasn't necessarily cheap in the past. It's been a long time since Century sold this in Canada and it's 24 cents a round.

And a single, solitary box of Privi .303 British. The Cyrillic says for "Bren".

Absolutely. That box is labeled in German, not Hungarian. 20 Stuck is 20 pieces, Ub is Übungspatronen, or practice cartridge. Despite being DDR issue, they're found only in non DDR cases - Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian, etc. for some reason

East German issue, made in Hungary.
 
The Soviet era match ammo box is neat. I've certainly never seen one in Canada before.

The arabic marked ammo is dated '58. If I'm reading it the right way up that is... if not it's '75. I'm inclined to think the arsenal stamp is the top and the date stamp is the bottom, making it '58. The top row of rounds seem to be different headstamps? With 30s dates?

I think the match ammo box and the arabic marked ammo would be of interest at the IAA forum. It's impossible to overstate the savant ability there, I'm sure they would have interesting insights.
 
I have about 20 or 30rds of that Chinese ammo on the brass stripper clips. Its pretty good stuff as far as surplus goes, that was ammo they intended to issue with their bolt actions, not like most the Chinese surplus you find now which is repackaged machine gun ammo.
 
lol...I remember the two on the bottom.....best price I remember from Century was 7.62x51 czech ammo for 99$ per 1000
 
The PP-60 "Mark VIII" is NOT to the Mark VIII spec.

SPEC for Mark VIII is a 174-grain RBT slug at 2550 ft/sec. The PP load is a BT slug but it weighs 192 grains and it KICKS.

Yes, I had heard something of the sort back then, pressure was supposedly higher.
 
Here's some various 8x57. Most of it I've had since the late '80's/early '90's.

Bulgarian, I think. Copper-washed steel case and jacket. Interestingly, the headstamps are the same even though box labels are different.

Don't know about these other than East Bloc '50's production. Didn't find an open box to check construction or headstamp.

Box is completely blank, as is the headstamp. Brass-cased, cupro-nickel jacket. Note the odd colour and texture of the primer. Export ammo for someone who didn't want to be found out, I'd guess.

FN tracer, 1969 production. It's brass-cased with red tip.

Romanian lacquered steel-cased. The colours of the lacquer and sealant make it my favourite "pretty" ammo. I had forgotten I opened the one tin years ago. Must have been to take a look at it as none was missing from the tin.
