I just got this Gorgeous 1943 Unissued / unfired Savage made No4 MkI . I am not planning keeping it so that is why some of you have probably seen it in the Milsurp EE section, but before it goes I would like to share some nice pics with you guys !

It does look park'd, which wouldn't be correct on a Savage. Also the stock looks refinished perhaps? I'm interested to see what the experts have to say, Ive learned to never say never in the milsurp world especially Enfields.
Refinished or not that is a great looking rifle, thanks for sharing.

Probably a good idea to let the board establish if it is or isn't a civilian refurb. There were a few companies in the States doing this type of thing, such as Navy Arms. I had a P-14 that was done by Century in a similar manor.

I'm not sure that sight is correct for a 43 Savage, but I could be wrong...

If you want to compare your Savage Enfield against an "all correct" 43 Savage as originally issued one, go to the United Kingdon - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=120-united-kingdom and view the 82 picture photo gallery montage for the 1943 Savage No.4 Mk1* Enfield Rifle (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?p=1312.

With thanks to Advisory Panel member Lance, there's also a rare "all correct" 1942 No.4 Mk1*(T) Savage Sniper Rifle (less scope) (click here) .....http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=3537

Lance's article, accompanied by a detailed 165 pic photo montage, speaks to this example as being one of approximately 3,400 Savage rifles converted by Holland and Holland and re-barreled with an Enfield 5 groove barrel, however, it was never fitted with a matching No.32 scope.

Hope this helps... :)

Regards,
Doug

I see this rifle is for sale on the equipment exchange!

Yeah, I wouldnt pay half the asking price for that. Insanity. I am most certain the stock has been refinished. This rifle looks so suspect, and by the WTB ads he has been putting out it looks like he is refinishing enfields and Mitching them into "Unissued" rifles. Unissued/unfired means its still in packaging, not condition.

he does state that it is on the EE right at the beginning.

As a hobbyist woodworker, however, the blotchy stain finish does look like it has been sanded and stained, and regardless, proving an unwrapped lee enfield has never been fired is a long shot at best. the combination of blueing and park finish also would raise questions.

what's the asking price?

Neither the wood or metal finish look to me characteristic of a savage in the catagory you describe. Particularly the blued rear sight.
I've owned quite a few of these and that's my view from these photos.

what's the asking price?

$1150 firm. Better act quick cause....
"If interested, make your move and take it off my hands as I am very close to change my mind and keep it ! It is so nice that I am really considering keeping it !"

Lol.

Took a look at the hi res photos and I'm leaning towards saying the rifle is not original. Quite sure the wood has been refinished. The rear sight is almost certainly not original. And the metal finish doesn't really match the Savages I've owned. Asking price is twice what the rifle is worth, IMO, but there's no shortage of suckers out there.

So Basically it's remember the name, flag it as scammer ( or whatever the name you want ) in your book and move on.

really looks like a CE1968 wood kit also.

thanks all for the advice.
