Sanded wood/wrong finish screams "not original" to me. But that being said I'd have to inspect the rifle in person to be certain.

It's a nice rifle but I'd want to be certain at that pricepoint!!

The pics are fuzzy but I have seen similar wood tone on unissued savages.

not sure if they ever had different styles but my savage has the L peeps.
looks a lot nicer than mine though... it's the biggest pile of rust I own.

Birch stocks with the reddish stain are fairly common on Savage No. 4s, just like the one in the Milsurps photo gallery. My Savage also has the stained wood.

That being said, I don't think this one is unissued.

No one found that "special" that there NO picture of any marking ? That could help to authenticate the rifle.

The last picture shows that left side of the receiver. The serial is 38C7746

But you are right. All the other square S marks are not pictured
