Got to the property shortly before daybreak. Spoke to the farmer for a few minutes before I headed to the back of the property. As I crest one of the hills, I see a coyote mousing the field about 75 yds away. I spot it, it spots me so we look at each other (statue like) for about 10 seconds before it starts to walk away. I quickly drop down on one knee, yell out the word WOLF causing the coyote to stop, allowing me to the take the broadside 75 yd shot. At the shot (I never seen a coyote jump so high) it jumps 5ft into the air then starts running. It ran about 70 yds or so before collapsing. He (the farmer) is very happy as this coyote (we think it is the same one) has been coming around his place all summer long. I have been here a few times but it has been eluding me up until today.
Taken with a .22 semi auto using a Winchester 36gr copper plated hollow point bullet.

Interesting. I’ve wondered about 22 and coyotes.

Thats awesome! I'd love it if a coyote walked off slow and stopped close enough for a shot to be taken with a rimfire before putting two quarters of land between each other after spotting you. Coyotes out here have learned being caught off guard = full speed flight and live another day not walk, stop and get dropped. That's mule deer habits! Lol

That was part of the problem with this guy, he was just too comfortable around the place and needed to be taken out.

Well done, and great story! When they get too comfortable around the yard, it's time to go. My wife almost let one in, thinking it was our dog wanting in the house. It was given a dirt nap shortly thereafter.
