I took my son out and we went on a rabbit hunt, we took the 870 and some # 7 shot. We were in the rifle zone hunting bunnies with a shotgun, after taking one we decided to go further on down the gravel road in search of more critters. We came around the corner and were being motioned over to the side of the road, a security guard for the pipeline came over and asked us if we were shooting. He wasn't on his property that he was supposed to be guarding, so I drove away.
A couple days went by and we went out again in the same area. Anyone who is familiar with Vancouver Island knows about the rifle and shotgun zones, everyone that is except for this uninformed security twit.
On our drive out we meet up with the security guard and a cop, he asks us if we had been shooting. I said yes and the security twit sat there in his truck all cocky and proud. I began telling the cop that this is a rifle zone, but I don't shoot one around here and prefer a shotgun for small game. He said he knew about the shooting zones and he was just responding to the call as he had to. The officer asked us if we had any luck meanwhile looking into the open window and seeing the 870 laying on the back seat. I told him we got one the day earlier but none today. I asked the cop ,"don't you want to see my drivers or licence, hunting licence, PAL or registration"?
He said "no", he had a couple words with the security twit and all three of us drove off in different directions. That was kind of weird not to be asked for any ID of any kind, that cop was a very decent dude, I could tell he was not happy with being called out there for no reason, except for an overzealous security ####. There was some young guys on quads in the gravel pit watching the whole thing, they asked me if that security #### was causing problems. I told them what happened and they said they were being bothered at every turn by the same putz. Next thing I know the quads are driving up and down the dirt road kicking up a lot of dust, the wind was blowing the dust all into the spot where security #### was parked, what a shame.
-------------------UPDATE--------------------------------
I talked to the local CO here and he will be having a chat with the individual about interfering in a legal hunt and charges will be laid if he persists on taking matters into his own hands. I talked to the security outfit about their guard going out of his way to interfere with the legal activities of hunters, he assured me that no further harrassment will take place. He asked for a description of my vehicle and his guard was told to leave me alone. I love doing things the legal way , but I sure wanted to knock him out for the a**hole way he presented himself. I'm going back there to hunt for bunnies a soon as I buy more bunny shot!!
