I am considering getting my turkey license, and was wondering if you guys could help me out with some questions.

What is it about pistol grips that make them suitable or preferred for turkey hunting? Do they provide a significant advantage? Or can one do just as well will a plain shotgun stock?

Secondly, are rifle-style fiber optic sights, or a red-dot a must on a turkey gun? Or can one do just as well with a rear bead and front fiber optic setup like on the Benelli Supernova?

I ask as I have been trying to decide on a new shotgun for a while, and would like one that could double as a waterfowl, AND turkey gun. Do you think the Benelli Supernova would fit the bill? I already know I love the fit and function of the gun. Just not sure if it would do well for turkey in it's plain configuration.

Thanks

Get your supernova and enjoy. You can use it for both waterfowl & turkey. The pistol grip type stocks are more comfortable and maybe make the gun a little more easily controlled when sitting, resting the shotgun over your knee when turkey hunting. You can make do with the fibre optic sight on the supernova for turkey hunting. Give it a try as is and it may be fine. You can always add a set of sights or a red dot or a scope later for turkey hunting if you wish. Cheers Bac4

I would go along with BAC4 advise.
I bought a turkey shotgun (Mossberg 835) two springs ago. I did not get to hunt with it until last spring. Only hunted two days, no turkeys.
I have spent two Sunday afternoons working withthe gun in the last month. I had never shot at a still target with any of my shotguns until these last days (went to a still turkey shoot last fall and shot awful). I found out that it took me a part box of shells to figure out how to sight my shotgun as I do a rifle. Just never looked down the barrel at fiber optic sights before either. I have come to an understanding of how to shoot at a still target now. It is a lot of fun once you figure it out. Seemed very strange not to be moving and swinging a shotgun when shooting it at first.
