Finally got the scope on my R-55 today. I worked over the trigger to bring it to a crisp 2.5 lbs and mounted a Bushnell 4200 4-16 x 40 on the top.
It was pretty chilly today with about a 10-15km wind but that didn't stop me from firing a few preliminary groups to narrow down some ammo choices. I tried some mini mags, velocitors, and some American Eagle.
This is a target from random yardages. The velocitors (5 shots, one missed the target) were fired at 25 yards and are definantly out of the equation. The mini mags (6 shots each) were fired at 50. The American Eagle groups (5 and 10 shots) were fired at 100. The american eagle group beside the dime (6 shots) was fired at the end of the day when the wind died. A friend of mine fired the last group, I sure wish I could take the credit for it.

It's American Eagle 38gr HP. The gun is a Benchmark that I got from WSS in Winnipeg last year.

The trigger was given two new springs (main spring, and the one between the sear and secondary sear) as well as some polishing to the trigger pivot rod and the secondary sear. I built up a spot on the back of the secondary sear (where it makes contact with the rod in the back of the trigger group) with JB weld and then carefully removed it until the hammer latched reliably but all creep was gone. I also modified the safety so that it is easily engaged.

I can't wait for a nice day to put this thing through its paces and see what it can do.
