Some Things I Have Learned About Old Cooeys

In putting together a match at our club over the last few weeks I have spent a lot of time thinking about old Cooey .22's. I put together a few thoughts that I'd like to share.......
Don't forget to hug your Cooey today :)

LOL
Hope you do the scatterguns next :)

I've learned that whenever a coworker tells me they have an old gun in their basement they want rid of and ask me if I want it...

It's a f###in' Cooey.

Like really... I'm up to three already.

"...someone probably had to die for it to be there"

Good stuff, just picked up a model 84 at a local show. Wish I knew more about its history, probably has a few stories to tell.

YMBACF (You might be a Cooey fan) if you've spent more on one afternoon's ammo than the rifle it was fired from.

YMBACF if you turn your nose up at a table full of coopers because there's no ACE, or Canuck on it.

YMBACF if an early memory is someone running into the house yelling "SNA..", and Gramma taking the trusty single shot from behind the door, knocking the offensive critter's eye out at 50 yds before hearing "KE!". Same with rabbits n' groundhogs that get too close to the garden.

YMBACF if you've decided to upgrade your .22 75 years ago, but haven't found a suitable replacement.

YMBACF if you have a rabbit shaped callous on your hand.

I was handed down a cooey 64 from my Pops 2 years ago after he past away. He had it since he was 14.

It's not in the best shape but I think I'll send it off to a smith to have it all done up beautifully and keep it forever in memory of my Pops!!!!!

Funny post and jives to my experiences. I was surprised with the "bent rear sight" part of that description. I adjusted my rear sight until it is aiming good and then probably over tightened the screw. It leans over on the right side of the barrel, but aims good. So when I read that, I thought "how'd he know?" Still a nice gun. My pre-61 Cooey 39 has better trigger feel than my 2015 Ruger 10/22.

I have a 39 my grandfather gave me 40 some years ago it is in perfect shape and looks brand new. I found a 75 in an old building that shoots fine but looks like somebody hated it. Someday will clean it up and see what it looked like when it was new. I also have whole action with barrel and every thing for a old repeater of some kind. Haven't tried to ever shoot it .

Great old guns, them Cooeys. We sell every Cooey that comes to us at gun shows. There is a growing number of people starting to take them seriously as collector items.

Great article! I remember the excitement when my Dad took me into the old time hardware in my home town and bought me a brand new Model 39. Oh, the smell of those old Whiz Bangs and Super Cleans! Thanks for the memories.

BFILES - Sending the rifle to get "fixed up" may cause the rifle to lose some of its charm. Every dent or mark is there from your father using it.
