Some Trophy Hunters go after a Leopard

sad very sad
piss poor hunting ethics and piss poor shot placement, maybe a better rifle for entend purpose. just gives more ammo for the anti's.
to bad it didn't get a better chunk of that guy before dieing.

I disagree. If anything this video exhonerates leopard hunting which has become such a stylized affair as to be little more than target shooting at a dark silouette against a bright sky at sunset, from short range. It also illustrates why a leopard is considered one of the "Big 5." The hunters willingly saw through what they started, knowing what weapons the leopard possessed. The hunters chose to stalk on foot when it would have been much safer to use a vehicle in that grass. These guys saw through what they started and kudoos to them for it. Given similar circumstances, many hunters would have tipped their hat to the the PH and retreated to camp for a stiff drink, allowing the pro and his tracker the joy of moping up their mess. Ethics score 100%

Poor rifle choice? I see no evidence of that. A double rifle is shorter than a bolt gun with the same length barrel, so the package is short and quick to get on target. While I'm not personally fond of them, a double provides the fastest follow-up shot of any action type. That seemed to be an appropriate choice here.

What is sad is your interpretation of what you saw in this video. What is sad is that you view only your own style of hunting as ethical. Have you never made a poor shot on game? If not, your experience comes into question. More importantly, did you ever make a shot that you didn't think had a reasonable chance of making a clean kill in a hunting scenario? Have you ever attempted to shoot a target that was moving rapidly towards you? I have, and its not easy, one tends to shoot at where the target was, rather than where it is. Have you ever risked your life stalking wounded dangerous game? Have you ever risked your life stalking unwounded dangerous game? Have you ever pressed the trigger knowing that a muffed shot could result in your death? Given your objection to this video, I doubt you have. Sad indeed.

The spots are very good Camo. I can see why they missed when it was charging. You could hardly see it except for the grass moving. The first shot in the tree was piss poor though. The hunt should have been over right there.

What then would you have been done about a wounded predator who might be incapable of feeding himself with the game he normally survives on? All that would be available for the leopard to feed on, until such time as he recovered or died would be easy game that can't run fast and has thin skin, like the locals who live nearby. I think you might appreciate that the lives of the African natives are difficult enough without having to contend with a wounded leopard intent on picking them off. The first shot was miserable, but that happens from time to time in the real world, even by expert marksmen. Following up a wounded leopard isn't for the weak of heart, and it was only luck that Chet wasn't killed. But they chose to do the right thing, and finished what they started. Its interesting to note that the PH I hunted with in Tanzania would not allow a client to accompany him into the long grass after a wounded leopard, but lions, buffalo, hippo . . . no problem! You pay for the thrills you're welcome to them. These guys had nerve.

I vaguely remember a similar good leopard hunting story by Capstick.
Seems he had an old leatherneck sword deflector and a Winchester Model 12 pump action shotgun with #1 buckshot, for dangerous duty as this!!

Africa.....where the hunter MAY become the hunted!

i just dont like hunting endangered amnials. anything else is fine, but when there are so few left in the wild.

just my 2 cents

Endangered?? You've been watching too many sunday morning celebs touting their agenda with mis-information. How many of your hard earned dollars have you sent to the World Wildlife Fund or Peta? If the animal was endangered there wouldn't be a tag available for it now would there? The game tags in Africa are available if there is enough of a huntable population of a particular species just as they are here at home. Not my type of hunting, I am not into trophy hunting per se but I have no problem with taking out predators if they are in huntable #'s. Yes it was a sad video to watch, sad that the first shot wasn't well placed and the animal had to suffer through the night, however when pursued it didn't fool around, it made itself known as to why they call it dangerous game.
