Some turkey load testing

It’s funny how true this is. Yet so many people get suckered into the products that “reach out farther”. Chokes, wad technologies, shot density. The most extreme is Wildside Armory chokes. Their YouTube promotional videos make me cringe.. advertising a choke that reaches 70, 80, 90 yards? C’mon..

Even if the choke gives good patterns out the 80 (which I'm skeptical about) the energy left in those pellets would be so little...

a lot of people also get suck into special turkey loads I just use normal 1 1/8 field loads and their giving met turkey killing patterns not need for too much extra shot that will end up where you don't want it.

Nothing wrong with special turkey loads though. If thats what gives you the confidence to put birds in the freezer, have at'er! Some of those fancy shells are pretty impressive too, I hear people in the states are having good success with the Federal Heavyweight TSS though, its like 50% denser than lead shot and people are successfully killing turkeys with 410s! Of course if you get close enough with a 12ga there aren't many loads that wont do the job if you do yours...

OP I'm not sure if you mentioned whether you have an optic or adjustable sights? It does look like you're a bit off, but a dead bird is a dead bird so...

Those tss shells are like 7.50 to 10 bucks a shot plus tax. I use mostly 7/8oz copper plated shot. In late season if the birds are wary and not coming to calls i switch to 1.5oz factory loads or pack a 10ga with 2.25oz loads. Ive likely got 40+ part boxes of turkey shells. I like to play with loads and chokes. Many ppl forget how effective the simplest solutions are. Any gun that youd shoot trap with and a legal load of #6 or #7 shot is all thats needed to 35 yards

Talk about overkill. Those TSS loads are great, but with Ontario's minimum shot size requirement of #7, there's no point. TSS in #9's would be nice if regulations permitted.

I have adjustable sights. It's been corrected. After the season is over I am probably going to mess around with more loads and barrel choke combo's.

I have not used the tss myself. Likely wont as i find myself using 2.5" guns mostly. When not i have proven loads that get me killing patterns to 50 yards in other guns. My average shots are under 25 yards
