The best part of a braked rifle is recoil suppression the worst part is the muzzle blast or listening to people complain about it. This looks like a simple device to fix the problem, a simple sleeve over the brake directing the blast forward.

The fellow writing the article clearly has no idea about guns, sound or physics.
One cannot increase sound level without a sound amplifier of some sort. Putting a brake or flash hider onto a barrel does not in any way increase the Db level. What is being experienced is a sonic boom at the end of the barrel being caused by the bullet passing ports or baffles. The brake or flash hider is simply re-directing what is already there.
The way a brake works the expanding gasses following the bullet "catch" the surfaces of the ports or gills essentially "pulling" the rifle away from the body. To a point the greater the surface area to catch the rapidly exiting gasses and the more volume is shed, the more efficient the brake is. To enclose the brake will significantly decrease the effectiveness and possibly create a safety issue. Suppressors employ far more internal surface area than brakes do, which also results in recoil reduction as a side effect to sound suppression, as is heat.

Yah... make an efficient brake that works well and then enclose it and reduce the effectiveness... One could even enclose the enclosure... it never ends...

I think it is way easier and better to wear good ear muffs...
 
FYI: Target Sports in Gormley has a whole lot of these on sale. They were originally over $100 and they're now down to about $70. They're made by NEA.

They have been around for a while now. As said before I would like to run test and see how much of a difference they can make. They are also call sound redirector I believe.

I will probably make one and test it on my 7 Rem Mag, but I need to make some kind of sled for accurate measurement.

The blast hit the baffles of the brake, the more surface the more recoil reduction, in theory. I don't know how much effect they would have but I definitely wanna test it out now.
