I was just toying around with the handy-dandy registration database:
http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/features/rapidfire/form.html

I typed in G3 and went to non-restricted, and sure enough some guy in ON has a non-restriced H&K G3. I know the system is plagued with errors, but if true it would be pretty awesome to be that guy.

*EDIT* I did some more searching apparently there is non-restricted AUG's, an HK 91, a G36P (never heard of a "P" varient, never mind a G36 at all in Canada) several M1 Super 90's, an HK SR9, HK 94, and the list goes on and on.

the fact that you have a certificate saying its non restricted dosent change the fact thats its prohibited its just a clerical error. i would not go to the range with one

Hi,

Do you work for the CFC, if not

Can you explain how you were

toying around with the handy-dandy registration database:

Thanks.

I thought only CFO and RCMP officers can check the data base.

Abolished = not in existence = no registry = no unregistered

But a G3 is not a "long gun" by our definition, its classified as "Prohibeted" because it has the fun switch, and the 91 because of our dumb laws also.

Getting rid of the "long gun" registry only eliminates the need to register non-restricted guns.

We will still need to register prohibs and restricted, and i DO NOT see those "lists" going anywhere fast.

So as already stated, if someone had a G3 that had an error and was classified as "non restricted" even though in reality it is a prohib, if the long gun registry went bye bye that person would be in posession of an unregistered prohibeted firearm.

Remember that when folks sent in their paperwork to register all their guns, the PO box in Ottawa was not the actual registry. It was a contractor. Remember that the Liberals had their own criteria for awarding contracts, and competence was not necessarily one of them. These were the good folks who registered heat and soldering guns, lost the paperwork for others, and generally did the sort of job that you would expect. If someone applied to register a non-restricted G3, that's what got registered. If they applied to register "an old army gun", that's what went into the system. The Ottawa Citizen did us a favour when they posted the abridged version of the registry. It was possible for everyone to see just how much of a mess it is.
Interestingly, there doesn't seem to have been any effort made to clean up the mess, and sort out the non-restricted prohibs, etc.
I do not think it would be a good idea though to try to transfer a non-restricted G3 or be seen in public with it, though.
