Just bought a Remington 770 30-06 and I noticed after I had disassembled and reassembled there was a crack in the rear receiver insert assembly that I'm positive wasn't there before. I'm not sure if I bumped it off the table or what but it's cracked and I'm looking for advice on an easy fix or if it really needs to be fixed at all. It doesn't interfere with the path of the bolt at all and really just appears cosmetic, any help from the experts on here would be greatly appreciated. (I know that the 770 has a lot of haters out there so please stick to the topic) thanks

Yeah, now that I had more time to take it apart today, the whole area where the screw goes in is almost broken completely off. Should I just replace this piece?

Well since it looks like the little barrel piece at the lower rear is for the screw to seat into I'd say you'll want to order up the part pretty much pronto. And when replacing the screw take mind that it's pulling down on a piece of plasticand don't go crazy with the torque.

It looks to me like this part is providing the rear portion of the hold down retention of the action. So it IS performing a functional role.
