I just bought the Leica 8x42 HD-B rangefinder binoculars and they are fantastic. You can also see an animal in low light to range them. I wasn't able to do that with the monocular style ones I had as the exit pupil was just too small and of course you are just using one eye....
 
I got a Leupold rx800i and I am very happy with it. I ranged a deer tonight (the light wasn't great and there was some fog) at 440 yards. Thats all I need (for now).
 
If you're sure your type of shooting requires a LRF (I'd suggest short range tactical won't), before spending money on any of these recommendations, read the article posted in Post #23. Learn what's out there and what's reasonable to expect. If you're max distance is 300m you can save a lot of money compared to the guy who wants to range out to +800m
