Someone talk me out of a Spuhr mount...

Thx That sites much better. You can click in the tab of the model and see what it is. Kind of hard to tell what model was what on the other one.

I have all DNZ mounts on my rifles and was hoping that their alphahunter was made for savages, but no go.

Sorry, I just can't bring myself to try to talk you out of a Spuhr. Nope. Can't do it. You see I have a couple of them, and I would have more if I could afford them. You will be pleased with your purchase!~

If you are a casual shooter taking your rifle out a bit in the summer, maybe a few shots in the winter I see no reason why you would need to spend a huge amount of money on basically a glorified clamp. A set of $200 rings will serve you just as well. If you are a pro shooter or in situations where your life depended on making a kill shot every time....Id say get it. A scope ring isnt gonna make you a better shooter. I think if you have to ask on a forum if you should buy it, you really don't need it.

The irony of a gun owner arguing the "need" for something.
If you like it, and you want it, and you can afford it, buy it. It's rated hands down the best mount on the market.

You don't need anything.

You don't need a car because you can walk.

You don't need a gun because we have no 2nd amendment nor right to self defense.

Guns are 100% a hobby in Canada.

Ok Ok guys calm down, just Omit the word "need" in my thread...it will lower your blood pressure. Not really wanting to get into the philosophical debate of wants vs needs.

I don't hunt (yet), and I'm not a pro shooter. I didn't need the Spuhr mount nor the S&B PMII that it holds. My rifle shot just fine with the SWFA SS and the Vortex rings I had on it, but I bought both anyway. Life's too short to not have the things you want.

If you could afford it,...cool . Im sure you didnt post a question on the CGN forum asking people to talk you out of a mount , asking if it was necessary either.

Anyhow...looks like OP purchased his SPHUR mount.......life is good.

Hey guys,

I have a new (to me) Savage 110FCP HS in .338 Lapua that I am trying to set up with glass... I just put in an order for a Stiener T5Xi in 5-25 x 56 and I am expecting it any day now (so not really looking for advice/critisism on which optic). The issue I am having is that I am trying to decide on a mount for the scope. The scope has a 34mm main tube. The rifle has the oringinal 20 MOA rail that it came shipped from the factory with. Ideally, I would like to get the front objective bell as low to the bore centerline as practical.

I know there are plenty of options out there for rings, so which should I go with? I am leaning towards the Spuhr SP-4001 which has a 34mm ring diameter and a hight of 1.18" (30mm). I am kinda thinking that the Spuhr mount will give me about a 1/4" gap between the objective bell and the barrel... Can anyone with experience here confirm this before I buy? Maybe try to talk me out of the Spuhr mount? It is expensive and I know that there are cheaper options, but I thought as this is my only centerfire rifle at the moment, why not splurge a little? Is the Spuhr mount a waste of money/necessary? I know its a lot of questions, but I keep going back and forth on if I should spend that much on a mount and if it will even fit the way I want it to?

What would you do?

Thanks

Dave

So Dave, how do you like it?

Funny you should ask... I just got the mount and the optic in the mail today! Couldn’t wait to get everything on and set up. I ####ing love it! Couldn’t be happier...now to get it out and zero it...

The mount is amazing. I mean just holding it in your hands tells the entire story. The thing just exudes quality. Everything snugs up incredibly easily. I don’t regret it for a second!

The optic, if anyone is wondering, is awesome too! Very happy with my purchase. Can’t wait to get it out for some shooting... expect a full opinion in writing as soon as I get everything run through its paces.

So far, I’m a very happy dude!

Dave
