Something a little different

The only problem with Betram is PRICE:eek::eek::eek:

I agree, but as they say, you get what you pay for!

A pile of good quality brass, if properly cared for will last a very long time, while poor quality cheap brass costs more in the long run!

Im just getting ready for work now-- Im going to post some pictures within the next few days of the old girls progress....Shes coming along nicely!

Just a pleasure to work on!

Cheers

Nothing more then a field cleaning

I am thinking of re bluing the barrel and receiver, leaving the bolt in the white.......
Still needs another 100 cleanings of the steel and oiling of the stock, Its a really handy arm.
I like it!

Hey, Musketfire, there's some dweeb over on Black Powder forum posted a rifle just like yours. Same serial number, too, for that matter! He also stole your screen name and your boots.

He was asking for info, so I posted a buncha stuff from the 1909 TBSA, might come in handy/

So how do you find the STELLA ARTOIS bore cleaner?

I think every part of the rifle has a different number:D

I'm only slightly a dweeb,...for the record.

Stella artois is only slightly acceptable as a beer, Yet in Canada its either stella or Hacker

Yeah, I have a few like that myself. Still, when you think of the history that this old thing has made, a few scrambled numbers just mean that it was really THERE, not just standing on its butt in some arsenal.

For cleaning my own bore, I prefer Clarke's Court, but you can only get it in Grenada. Oh well, there's always Coruba. Yarr, matey! You can get Carib here now; it's a pretty fair beer. For a real treat, try the Dos Equis Negro: a smooth black Mexican beer that's so solid you can chew it, even good warm. No good for bore cleaner, though.

Have fun with the toy!

Progress

A few more coats of raw linseed oil and varsol more cleaning to the metal and bolt shes nearly ready to go:)

I'm going to blue the barrel/receiver and furniture in the next couple of weeks.

The bore has come quite bright much to my joy.

I speculate shes going to be a nice shooter:)

If anyone has a idea what I can use as a period correct substitute cleaning rod "maybe a early pattern Nagant one???
I have a antique Gras strap on route...Im still looking for a bayonet.

She is still absorbing the linseed oil so I imagine I have many hand rubbed coats to go.

I keep hearing the butt plug described as a "holy water" plug is there any truth to that??

Was a dab of holy water put there during manufacture??

She is mucking out into a real handsome rifle!
