Have you noticed that the Main Battle Rifle forum is about 98% M14 related material? Just out of curiosity, are there any other MBR's available in Canada besides the M14, M1A, M305, M14S, and Garand? Just....something different...

Well, a few other famous battle rifles we can own are covered in other forums ( SKS in Red Rifles, Enfield's/Mauser/Moisin etc in Milsurp and the modern AR platform is of course in the Modern section ) which leave the obvious FN/FAL and AK which most of us can't own. What were you thinking of ? Make a posting and I'm sure you would generate some interest .

it would be cool to have the m1Garand guys join the MBR. It's another large caliber battle rifle that i personally don't own but lately have been thinking about aquiring or building. would be cool to see more guys posting in the MBR about building and maintaining/accurizing thier garands> I guess most of that discussion is in the surplus rifle section.

Unfortunately, the M14 series of rifles is the only MBR commonly available to anyone with a PAL. There are a few other Non-restricted MBR's out there (like the AR10), but they are exceedingly rare and expensive. :(

He is talking about the original AR-10, most made by AI in europe, if the few of these guns haven't been deemed 12(3) then they must be non-restricted.

I'd LOVE to have one myself!

the AR10 came out long before the AR15 was thought up.
it predates the M14 in U.S. service history and was the reason the u.s. ended up with the M14. The original AR10 was made with an aluminum/steel alloy barrel that blew up in torture test........ so the m14 got the green light.
the m16 came later as a redevelopment of the ar10 idea...... i think that's how it all goes anyways. :p

i would think these would be prohibited all around as the info i have says they were select fire. Armalite sold the rights to AI in europe when the US went with the M14, and AI manufactured several models for various governments

would the ljungman and hakim be considered a mbr ?

Yes, they would be... but not as much fun to play with! ;) Parts and accessories are not as plentiful as they are for the M14's/M1A's and all.

Notice that we have many M1 Garand owners hanging around and seeking information here on the MBR Forum? Maybe it's because we are a more fun and helpful bunch over here.... yuk yuk yuk

M14Doctor: Grab an M1 Garand soonest... I'll talk you through a restoration process. They are as much fun to work on as the M14's you've done. You will be surprised how much 'carryover' you will have/experience working on the M1 Garands. :p And here's the best part... ALL M1 Garand stuff is USGI spec! ALL of it; Italian, American, etc, etc! :D

Soon you too, can restore an M1 or 2 of them to this condition:

Top one is mine. Both rifles are Bredas. Bottom one was re-parkerized and then restored and then we installed a new Boyd's stock on it as well. He had to install an Italian issued M1 Garand stock just to maintain that 'Italian' flavor.

I have an old Danish M1 that is in dire needs to a restore. The stock is ok but way to dinged and cracked to bother fixing and the metal is really bad too. A new boyds stock and either parkerizing or guncoating should fix it up nice.

Shoots well though for a 70 year old rifle.

yea i just got one that hungry is gunna help me restore this summer! I cant wait to learn all this stuff, but too bad i dont have my own parkerizing bath :(

But either way it will be a fun project to fix up and shoot afew rounds off along the way! :D

Hungry...... yer so evil hehehehe
now i'm thinkin my #### will fall off if i don't have 2 garands ...... soonest LOL
after this summer I'll be taking some serious vacation time....... and perhaps i'll find my first garand to restore. I do have all the tools and information for doing full service restorations and builds (except i don't do wood refinishing.... i can but i hate it LOL) , but the garands are not my specialty.
