I have a nice older Leopold m-8 4x scope that is clear and sharp,but there appears to be a hair,or something on the lens inside the scope,which moves around when I twist the focus bell.What is it?what should I do-send it to the factory for refurbishing,or just let be?

I think this is an age old question...particularly common for camera optics in the days of 35mm. The size, how distracting it is and how long it has been there are all factors... it could be a small sliver of black anti-reflection paint from the inside tube wall or the edge of a lens. It might just disappear next week as it finds another spot to rest. You may wish to check IF (and how much) Leupold might charge to correct it. Only you can decide how badly you obsess about it - it isnt going to change the optical performance of the scope unless it obstructs the reticle

if they were bought before a certain date, yes, after that date you are supposed to send US bought scopes back to the retailer you bought it from or to leupold direct(maybe)

I believe that the M8 line was discontinued well before the Leupold decision regarding warranty work on scopes not imported by Korth. Call Korth with your serial number to be certain but I think you're safe.

the warranty is still valid, if it was a US purchased scope you have to send it to the US due to the distribution agreement, as mention the M8 should come in before the date cut off which only happened in the last few years to get around people grey marketing scopes

Giant pain in the balls hence why it makes more sense to buy from Korth or one of their retailers which is pretty much every gun dealer in the country.
The problem isn't buying new,but used,you have no idea when or where it was originally purchased.Way back it wasn't an issue,you could just buy a scope in the US and declare it at the Canadian border like any other non restricted stuff you were bring back...not anymore

Call 1-800-LEUPOLD and give them the serial number. They will check it for you.
The vast majority of Leupold scopes in Canada have been imported through Korth Group. Only a very few have come directly from the USA. Bass Pro is the only major retailer and brings in their Leupold scopes via there own distribution chain in the USA and apparently they will look after the warranty for you. Phil.
done it in the past you just has to be patient for Leupold to get a specific license to export it back to you.
even for screws on a ring, so a scope is a long waiting period...
