So I just noticed that when I tip my M-305 forward and backward, I can hear something sliding back and forth inside the rifle - sounds like maybe the piston in the gas cylinder???

Is that normal? I've never had an m-14 before so anything that goes bump in the night freaks me out.

Edit - the more I think about it though the more I think this is normal...but is it for sure?

It's working like it supposed to. If I recall correctly I think that was a way of verifying that the cylinder was working correctly, tilt the gun (I can't remember exactly) so many degrees and you should hear the cylinder slide back and forth.

The piston should slide; but, only if the action is open, if you are hearing something moving when the bolt is forward, it shouldn't be the piston.
