I've recently began reloading for my 6" Python. The first batch came out fine but my most recent batch of about 100 rounds demonstrated a bit of a glitch: about 1 in every 4 or 5 rounds that I tried to fire double action failed to fire. The primer looked like it had an OK primer strike but the round didn't go off.
Every round fired single action went off. Those rounds that failed to fire double action might not go off with a second double action strike but they never failed to go off when fired again single action.
I'm loading with H110 and Magnum primers (sorry I can't recall the brand off hand). The brass and the primer pockets are very clean as I'm using stainless steel media in a rotary tumbler to clean everything.
A friend suggested making darn sure the primers are fully seated. He suggested setting the primers pretty hard. I'm using a new lee Classic Cast Press which has the primer seater integral to the column and I can get a lot of leverage on that puppy if I want. Should I just 'come onto' the handle to make sure the primers are well seated?
I'll have to try to uniform the primer pockets too.
Any other suggestions what to try?
