I just found this ad on another Canadian website used by people selling firearms. (hint Firearms Canada):


"FOR SALE: Colt-ar15 sp1 h bar original 1973 vietnam era with matching year bayonet and scabbard

Original 1973 Colt AR15 SP1 – H-BAR with matching year bayonet and scabbard.
Birdcage muzzle break.
H-Bar rife, Vietnam soldier issued (hence the 802 stenciled on the mag-well)
Full length chrome-lined Colt AR “Pencil Barrel”
Original Colt 3×20 scope (adjustable), plus adjustable wind-age and elevation iron sights, which can still be used when the scope is mounted.
Shoulder strap
2 original Colt Mags, one 10rnd mage + one 20rnd mag
in addition to the original Colt mags there are 7 aluminum (after-market) magazines
This is a pristine, highly collectable piece of military arms history. I’ve had the serial number checked out by Colt Canada and according to them everything is legit.

There's quite a few red flags here that I can see, but what say the rest of you?
 
I thought that anything once issued by the US military remains the property of the US military forever and that civilian ownership meant it was stolen from the military. I could be wrong though but that would make it a full auto as well which should need more than a restricted PAL.
It says H-bar then a couple lines later says pencil barrel? WTF.
The seller doesn't know what he has and probably wants way too much money for it and is hoping some dumbass believes his crap and will pay triple what it's actually worth.

I will never deal with anyone on that site, too many stories of guys getting ripped off.
 
Well US never had issued SP1 ( since sp1 was civilian ) in Vietnam it was the M16 and that was full auto and semi. So never could been owned or used in the military, Birdcage back then it was a 3 prong. Also SP1 never came in HBAR, and says Pencil Barrel.. So is it HBAR or a Pencil Barrel?

I remember reading something similar, but despite spending the last while searching, am damned if I can find it.

What I remember is that this is more time sensitive than absolute; that is to say that something like pre-1986 is available while newer is not.

Can anyone confirm? I'd be interested as well as a couple of local guys have what they label as an authentic Vietnam era M16.
