Sometimes options create headaches!!

After 20+ years of shooting 1911's, Beretta's, Glocks, and CZ's, I'm pretty set in my ways. However, I'm not a fossil. New guns provide new opportunities to rethink old ways.

I just started to shoot and love the Grand Power K100. This is the first gun I've owned that really fits my hands perfectly. The trigger in double and single action is excellent.

The problem is the mag release. It works perfectly, but there's a hitch. It's ambidextrous. Without switching anything, it works on both sides.

I'm finding that I prefer to drop the mag with my trigger finger. It naturally falls to the button. I also don't need to adjust my grip at all when I use my trigger finger, unlike the normal side. On all my 1911's, I could add a longer mag cath or button. For production, that won't be an option.

Can you think of any signifigant downsides to making this switch??
 
Nope not at all. It is a good piece of kit. It is widely use in Europe in Prod Div. With great success. The only concern I would have would be availability of....mags..parts...etc. But other than that I I bid you a "Good Show and Well Done" Now go out and Kick some SPO1 A*s

Without sounding like I drank the Kool-aid, I think the rotary barrel and grip contour really do aid in reducing the felt recoil. Perhaps it's just because I've never loved the feel of the Glock grip, but the K100 just doesn't feel flippy at all.

The plain sights are very nice, and sight recovery is quick.

The trigger reset is painfully short and crisp.

I know Omen commented that he was bitten by the slide stop pin, but I have not as yet had that issue.

I do the same thing with my USP. I find that I do not move my strong hand as much during reloads. I have run the same stage in CDP with both my USP and 1911 and have found the USP to be slightly faster to reload.
 
There is another gun with a mag release on the trigger guard (I forget which one it is). At an IPSC match, I saw one shooter (under pressure of course, due to time constraints) miss the mag button and push the trigger instead. I don't know if that's possible with your mag release's setup, but it might be something to look at.
 
I like the USP release,..I used it for years with no problems.

.I tried switching my tanfoglio mag release but I kept pressing it accidentally with my weak hand and did way too many mag changes.
 
that was Chris from years back HB, and it was his P99 and it was the last stage of the match, last reload, that he did that on. pounded it right into the wall.
