There is nothing wronge with a 410. I have used one for over 20 years and love mine. Most of my birds have been taken at 15 yards and they are dead. Just need to shoot better.
Get the young man a 410 or a small 22. He will love it.
I remember I got my first grous(s) (got 3 of em) when I was seven. I used a Remington nylon 66; great little gun. The thing I hated most, was how noisy the gun was. I remember that even with .22 shorts, I would have to get my dad to cover my ears, and longs were preatty much unbarrible for me. So I stuck with .22 shorts. When I was about 9, I got a .410, and it worked good for shots up to 20 yards or so maybe (I kinda forget), and the recoil wasn't bad, but I put hearing protection on when i was shooting (even at game; yah yah I know) When I was 11, I started using the 20 gauge, and that worked great. Now, I am back to the good oll .22lr. Don't know what it is but I just love rimfires. Can't help it.
