Hi Everyone,

I am new to the world for firearms and have a few questions. I will start off with a bit about why I am here.

My grandparents have moved from their house to a senior’s home at the ripe old age of 91. Now my grandfather had two guns a double barrel shot gun and a .22. He has offered them to me and after initially saying I have no need or interest in guns have changed my mind. One of my employees was telling me about his guns and why he likes them and how fun target shooting and hunting can be. Knowing I am a military history buff he showed me sum of the guns you can get that are part of many generations past and present history. Now I am getting the bug.

So I told him my wife will never let me bring guns into the house. I tell my wife I want to get my PAL and she not only says ok, but that she will take it also so we can both safely own the firearms.

Reading over the forums I have found answers to most of my questions. But along with telling people where I am starting from I do have one.
I don’t know if my Grandfather registered his guns. I didn’t think to ask him. I don’t have them yet as I don’t have my PAL yet and wont fro probably three months or so. What will happen if they aren’t registered? Can I register them? What would I have to do to take ownership of them? I am willing to bet careful searching would give me the answer but I also want to introduce myself.

Thanks

I'll let other better qualified members inform you as to the registration issue, I'd just like to say welcome and congrats on getting the wife on board! Oh, and enjoy your new disease: the good news is it's pretty much incurable.

you can register them by calling the cfo, you can even do it online. shouldn;t be a problem if they haven't been registered before you just register them under your name when you get your pal. if they are under your grandfather's name then he will have to transfer them to you

Thanks I was worried my grandfather would have to jump through all kinds of hoops or I would get him in trouble or something. I will have to ask him if they are registered or not next.

Maybe it will take care of itself if they scrap the gun registry. I am taking the course in three months and from reading this forum it can take more than the 30 days advertised to get the PAL after the course.

Welcome to the sport ssbn506- Much like yourself, I started shooting just last year. I'm still loving it as much as the first time I went shooting! Enjoy & like others have said, no biggie on Granddad's old guns. Wish my Gramps had left me his gun, but alas, he left it err, somewhere, when he returned from ww2...
