sooo ... anyone know where i can get varget or what is equivalent to it?

Could the same be said for 223 ?

There is a hockey sock full of good propellants for the .223 Rem and Varget is worth a try, especially with the heavier bullets. Again, people were punching itty-bitty groups with any and all of W748, BLC2, H335, H322, AA2230, IMR3031, and IMR 4895 to name a few before Varget showed up on the shelves. It all gets back to load development in a particular rifle. Buddy's pet .223 load might shoot like a champ in his rifle, but not necessarily in yours.

The shooting/gun business if full of marketing hype with this or that gunwriter pimping for brand Y or brand Z. Best to try for oneself. Funnily enough, the IMR series of powders, incl 3031, 4320, 4064 and 4895 were all developed some 80 yrs ago and still keep on ticking in the face of the modern "wonder powders". Same thing with the tried and true military rounds like the .30-06, 7x57, 8x57, and 6.5x55, all first fielded at least 110 yrs ago.

Thanks.. Have been using Varget with great results but wished it would meter better..is why I asked..

BLC2 was developed specifically for the 308/7.62 cartridge and W-W 748 is nothing but a commercially numbered version of the same powder. One would think with the money available to the Military to develop a good propellent for their latest cartridge (1953 I believe) That it might be one of the best propellants out there for it. I personally use IMR 4064 with 150 gn bullets for good velocity and accuracy from a hunting rifle...........don't play the one hole game so I can't say which powder is best for that.
If you are absolutely stuck on Varget I know where there are 3 lbs for sale, PM me.

For 155 and 168 wt bullets i like 8208 xbr (this is a faster small kernal powder)
you can use AR comp for 155 up to 185 without issues.

Thanks
Trevor

BLC2 had it'd genesis in a ball powder that Winchester-Western used to make a gazzilion rounds of .303 ball ammo on Brit contracts during WW2. The Brits were apparently quite satisfied with it. Hodgdon got it's first supplies of this powder from pulled down surplus .303 Brit rounds.

From Hodgdon's Burn Rate Chart:

#93-IMR-4064
#94-Norma 202
#95-AA-4064
#96-AA-2520
#97-Aliant R15
#98-VihtaVuori N140
#99-Varget
#100-IMR 4320
#101-Winchester 748
#102-BL-C(2)
#103-CFE 223
