Source for 1:7 CL M4 profile bbl's?

In that case I'd get in touch with BBB at S&J hardware and see if you can snag one his 14.5" off the next batch. Great prices, especially for a project barrel. New ones are supposed to have A2 FSB available as an option.

They're not chrome-lined IIRC.

I don't see the big deal about that. If you are just worried about wear and tear, buy a couple barrels as spares. Or am I missing something?

I have NEA barrels on other AR's and they're great. The ARC process is likely just as good as chrome.

I don't want chrome for performance reasons on this rifle, only because I'm building a C8 replica and tryign to mirror C8 specs as much as possible, that means traditional rifling and chrome lining.

Nothing to do with actual shooting performance.

Ack. makes sense then.

and cold hammer forging....:nest:

Cute.

Short of stealing a real BBL from the CF, I can't see how that is going to happen.

Although, I suppose there might be a (very) few original Colt 14.5" carbines in Canada I could cannibalize for one... lol.

Questar had the only one.

I rather doubt that. Complete Colt M4-type AR15's were imported prior to Questar bringing in any. That being said, I would not cannibalize a $2000+ collectible Colt AR to get a donor barrel for re-profiling just because it was hammer forged ;)

I doubt it was CHF, U.S. Colts don't have CHF barrels. Unless it was from Colt Canada...

Fair enough, though at times Colt Canada has supplied parts to Colt in Conneticut.

Supposedly the 2011 and later batches of CMMG barrels are now CHF - but alas, quester stopped importing CMMG in 2010 so those aren't really obtainable.

Too bad really - I rather like my CMMG M16A3 clone.

CHF doesn't necessarily mean better, Colt themselves found no difference in durability between their CHF and regular barrels. And there is Filthy 14, the regular BCM 16" middy with 43 000 rounds down the pipe with no cleaning, it's still shooting 1.5" groups at 50 yards.

The truth of the matter is that unless the bbl is CHF marked, nobody will ever know - lol. If I use a DPMS1:9 bbl, all the factory markings will get machined off when it's re-profiled as well, so unless someone measures the twist they would never know either.
