Every where I look the Savage Axis guns are offered as a package with a POS scope. Are there any dealers for a new rifle in plain black without the scope ?

If I can find one new and save a little $$$$ but not having to pay for a cheap scope I'll be scrapping anyway that would be a plus.

Epps had some for $306. last week, now they're $359. The SR's (threaded 20" barrel) were$319 last week, now they're $377. Not sure why the price increase, the CDN $ didn't drop back then.

Bought a 7mm-08 with a youth stock for the wife from WWS on boxing day. It was $223 plus tax and shipping. Could hardly afford not to buy it!

I handled one of these today at local gun shop, was not impressed, seemed so cheaply made, gonna save up and buy something better.

The debate has been going on since the Axis came out and I'm not about to start it again, but I own two and have been satisfied. I first bought a 223 for $250 with scope from WSS a year ago durung their boxing week sale. I hated the trigger so I put a Rifle basix on. I have put 200 rounds through it and it has worked flawlessly. I use it as my coyote gun and I love it (the coyotes......not so much). I just bought a 7mm-08 in a youth stock for my wife ($223 on boxing day) to use at the range and if she is so inclined she can hunt with it. I noticed the trigger on thr 7mm-08 is a lot better than the 223 I bought a year ago. I don't know if they have done something to improve it or if the quality is just very inconsistant and I happen to have gotten lucky on this one. I personally would not shy away from these, but you have to manage your expectations. It's not a Sako!

Ive had mine(in 223rem) for 2 years I think now. 2000+ rounds down it and shoots the same as the day I developed some loads for it. The trigger sucked on it so a timney was installed asap. Is the quality on par with cz, sako, winchester? No long way form it but it is very affordable and from my experience pretty darn accurate. For $250 what more could you want.

So buy online then. Deals are out there. What I do is go to the store and if they have what I want check it out and if I like it go home and see what it goes for online. If its cheaper in store I'll get it there if not then I'll buy online.

We always hear the same thing ..i too held this and wasn't impressed felt cheaply made ,,but then all we hear again and again nail driver
i will judge for myself

I have the 22-250 with the black stock and the SS barrel had it about a year with no issues, fired a few hundred rounds out of it. I am planning on upgrading the scope when the funds are there, great gun for the money spent.

Doubt you will have problems and if you do it would be the bottom of the mag breaking. Put ~2000 rounds down my axis 223. Not one issue

The trigger is really easy to mod on these. A quick youtube search will show you how to get it down to about 2 lbs. It is totally adjustable...you just need to know how to do it.
