looking for a few sources for Duracoat kits, I know a guy that does KG guncote cheap but I can't KG cote a polymer ruger trigger guard as the process need to be baked. So I'm looking for Duracoat kits,

Also has anyone done this before? is an airbrush compressor better then a Duracoat air can that comes with the kit?

Good timing, I just got a delivery of duracoat stuff today for a coming project.

Lauer sells directly to Canada and you don't have to pay the reseller prices.

BUT they can only ship UPS so you get the usual brokerage fee ass rape.. BUT I think it is still cheaper than reseller prices I've paid in Canada.

I've never tried the aerosol kit but I've heard from numerous sources that they don't work very well at all.

I bought a gravity feed HVLP airbrush from home depot and connect it to a bigass compressor and it works great though the gravity feed one I got is a little bigger than I needed. Lauer sells a few different guns and I'd recommend an HVLP gravity one as you can control your spray shape and amount better than a hobby brush.

I have the duracoat catalog right in front of me.

I bought a few Armacoat kits from TSE, had them in 3 days. ~$30 each and shipping is by Canada Post. One kit can do the metal on 3 rifles, can be air cured or baked, and is applied the same as duracoat.

BTW Princess Auto has those HVLP sprayer kits on for $12.99

I got an email from the Duracoat guys on Monday, they don't have a Canadian Distributor for their products.

Greetings,

Unfortunately at this time we do not have any Canadian distributors. We do ship direct using UPS.

Best Regards.

The $12.99 HVLP sprayer from PA is what I use, it seems to work well, holds 4 ozs in the cup, just about right.

Have any of you guys had trouble with ArmaCoat bottles leaking. 2 out of about 6 bottles I've had show up here leaked. The last bottle I got was cracked so I investigated a bit. The plastic was brittle and crumbly, I think something in the paint degrades the plastic making it brittle. I'm not sure I will be buying anymore Armacoat, I'm tired of dealing with the sticky mess in the bags. In their defense the product works well, everyone I've done a gun for has been happy with the product.

If the ArmaCoat guys read this I need some more colors, wild ones like DuraCoats Bloomberg Collection and their fluorescents. I've gotta get my little girls interested in shooting somehow.

Yea I've heard good things about ArmaCoat but don't like their lack of availability and I can't resist the selection of Duracoat and their secondary products.

Packaging was changed to steel containers a few weeks ago to remedy the problem with the plastic ones.......if you like pm me on what you had leak and it will be replaced at no charge. TSE is getting there replacement order of the new packaging in a weeks time, so you won't have to deal with the old plastic bottles anymore. As for the bright colors there is not enough demand for them here in canada, unless you call to order a few gallons.

I sure hope you have a respirator on while spraying that in a confined/enclosed space...

Thanks Mom ;), yes in fact, and it is right next to a window with an exaust fan running. It is a good paint setup.

That was done in the fall last year and the weather was crappy so had to do it indoors.

My next one i`ll be putting together an outdoor painting fixture and doing it all out there.

Real men don't wear respirators!
Just kidding :D

Thanks for the info Ceriksson, I've just gotten a new rifle that is begging for Urban Mirage Camouflage. :p
