Where might one find a Canadian dealer that has good qualtiy 7.62x54R brass? I remember seeing Lapua 7.62x53R brass somewhere, but is this what I want? I know Norma makes 7.62x54R but can't seem to find a Canadian source. I have Igman brass, but hear mixed results.

I plan on shooting 125grn .310 and 150grn .311 bullets and will be ordering the RCBS full length die set and additional neck-size die.

I got a bunch of factory load Norma 180 grains from the Shooting Edge at a gun show last year. Great brass! I believe Milarm had some as well a while ago, try there as well.

I just recieved 100 cases from ammolab on evil bay. The price was $37 + shipping, great cases. Got the package valued at $5 so I would not get stung for extras by customs.

Yes it is. The source in Canada for the Lapua stuff is Hirsh Precision (Peter Dobson), who is a dealer here on the boards. It isn't the cheapest brass you will find, but its pretty much the best. If you scour around you can also find Norma, Sako and from time to time some of the old Prvi Partisan stuff that was ok at times.

I figured the x53 stuff would work, if nothing else it should resize to x54 in my dies. Thanks Dosing.
No worries, the 53R and 54R casings are the same. The Finns used 308 bullets while the Russians used 310-311s, and this is where the discrepancy lays. Even Lapuas handbook states that caution should be used firing steel jacketed Russian (310) ammo through the Finns 308 bore, but it pretty much ends there. The casings from a reloading point can be used for either.
Get some and have some fun. If you buy from Hirsh, ask him to toss in a copy of Lapuas load sheet for it from thier reloading manual ;)

You can always buy the cheap steel stuff and pull the bullets and powder. Still cheaper than buying new, without the corrosive primers.

Hi Guy's
I was in at SIR and saw 7.62x54R labled as BELL BRAND. I found some on the range same head stamp and have loaded it a few times.
Cheers

I am using Bell brand. Bought 140 rds of Bell factory ammo, shot it, and voila, fresh brass.....so far, no problems with it.....haven' tloaded much though >20 rds for testing purposes.....
