Hi - got a question for everybody....

I need some setscrews for the 3-position front sight of my Aristocrat sight rib on my PPC custom revolver.

I measured the only surviving one at .120 wide by .253 long, and it is a 40 tpi pitch. I believe this is a 5-40x1/4 screw, but none of the industrial suppliers I tried have them, and I don't want to pay the minimum $7.50 charge  for 3 screws  from western gun parts to ship them out to me. I am wondering if there is anybody in Calgary that stocks screws like this... I don't know how many more months it will be before I get to Edmonton on a weekday so that's a pretty slim chance to get one out of there.

Any opinions?

Kyle

The $7.50 charge is not bad... most "screw" places that carry specialized pieces like that have a $20 or $50 minimum charge

You could try 'Lordco'or 'Acklands Grainger'.

Good luck

or.............. I've got a bunch of 5-40 socket heads that you could cut down and hack-saw a slot in one end........... let me know - I'll stick'm in the mail.:)

cheers - Gus

Why not get a hold of Aristocrat and ask them for some screws?

I tried, but I can't find any contact info for them on the web... They don't seem to have any web presence at all.

You must have a very small hacksaw!

Uhhhh.......not really. Nominal size for a #5 is aprox. .100 (+or- a few). My fine blade mikes at .020........lots of meat there for a slot.

Come to think of it.........KyleM - shoot me your address and I'll make some up and send them to you......... problem solved:D

So, using your link, I got ahold of Aristocrat this morning and they are dropping a set of setscrews in the mail for me tomorrow, compilimentary!

In case anyone else ever needs to find out and searches to this topic, the 3 screws are 5-40 thread pattern, but they are 3/16, 1/4 and 3/16 long in order front to back. Just in case you happen to find a source for them - not exactly a common hardware store item!
