I have always liked subsonics for pest control, the quiet and accuracy that subsonic brings. My all time favorite were Remington Subsonics but the Canadian supply seems dry and google hasn't helped.

http://www.silencerresearch.com/subsonic_22_ammunition.htm of course we ignore the silencer info. The table suggests Lapua (can't find), Eley (I can find only at Cabelas $19 for 50) are very tight groups; no surprise. But PMC moderater (I can't find) is excellent also per the article. I have tried the CCI but it tends to fling a few stringers, and I just hate hearing only the firing pin with Agulia. Winchester Subsonics are non existent in my Southern Ont area.

So the question is : Anyone have a source for PMC moderator or Lapua, or another brand that is fairly accurate? I ask only as google has failed me.

I've used subsonics, and have switched to CCI Quiet. Sold as LR lead and a segmented hp. Use a long barreled rifle and they are quiet, the firing pin makes more noise than the round.

700 fps, killing power is less than a 1200 fps round, so I've gone to the segmented, haven't any field experience with the segmented, logically they should work better.

Subsonics are too dirty for my liking, and they are not that quiet, just subsonic, so better when silenced. A silenced 22lr rifle with any under 1000 fps ammo is quiet, without the bullet breaking the sound barrier just out of the muzzle.

IMO, CCI Quiet burns all of its powder in the first foot of the barrel, and the bullet is no longer being pushed as it leaves the muzzle, quieter than an air rifle. Uncanny, you have to try it to believe it.

Remington CBEES is what I use on pest around the yard.

Its basically an underpowered yellow jacket but it still get #### done in a close quarter range pest control round.

PS: dont store yellow jackets beside CBEES... Lol

Another suggestion for CCI Quiet-22. I've managed to find a few bricks of CCI Quiet-22 here and there. I bought it originally to use in my little collection of 100year old pump and single shot rifles for the lower power and shock to the old guns. But a couple of my modern target rifles love it as well. And at only 710fps rating it's pretty darn quiet when coming out of a rifle. Shooting it from the heavier "bull" barrels is so quiet that if I'm the only shooter at the range I seriously don't need any hearing protection. It's no worse than an quiet air rifle.

While the "Quiet" round are that indeed they won't cycle through a semi like the subsonics do. Cabelas are stocking subsonic - Eley is the brand and they are a box of 50 for $18.99 - pricey

Target Shooting Products in Toronto carries Eley, Lapua and other match ammo.
You can get decent stuff for under $80 for 10 boxes of 50.
