If anyone is looking for a beautiful aftermarket wooden stock for your SKS I just stumbled on Mississippi Arms and "Timbersmith" stocks, they are works of art, I'm getting a left hand Monte Carlo but they have all kinds. Check them out.

PS, I have no business relationship with them, just found their site when I was rooting around

I'm lucky and live 10 miles north of the US border in BC. I usually get my stuff shipped to a receiver just south of the border, I go down, buy my 75cent a litre gas and pick up any stuff I have waiting for me. Of course you have to be careful what you transport to the border. Canadian customs doesn't care too much about what you bring back that is firearm related. Its the US border that gets touchy and then outright hostile if you transport certain items. For instance, I can buy ammo in the US, its legal to import it into Canada but I cant transport it in the US, guess they figure I'm going to invade them with my box of .45 cal or whatever. I was stopped on the highway by US customs and border patrol just before Chhristmas, I had bought a knoxx stock for my shotgun. They really were scratching their heads, they didn't know the rules, I did, I studied them, I knew I was legal but thought I would be singing silent night with Bubba in Levenworth. I carry the info posted from the US government regarding what you can and cannot transport. they were very nice and let me go but if I wasn't prepared, who knows what would have happened. I would love to buy my stuff in Canada but if the price difference is too high or I cant get anyone to ship to me, I will continue doing what I do. I dont buy much stuff and I have Nexus, trusted traveller card and I alwas declare everything I purchase. As I told the US border plds, I'm not going to risk my PAL and my Nexus card by smuggling or not declaring stuff.
I have phoned a couple of the big suppliers in the US and explained the rules etc but they just have a blanket "We dont ship to Canada" because they get huge fines if they contravene the law. but on a case by case item I have often persuaded them to ship and I hope that has helped other folks. As for importing stocks. There is a blanket exemption from export permit as long as the items are not actions, barrels etc, the cost must be less than $150, wholesale. They are picky about stocks that reduce the overall length of the firearm. As for Canadian customs, you can bring any stock you want except bullpups and a few obscure stocks. So if you want the nice wood stocks, lets do a group email campaign to them and see if they will supply.

Well, some people pay 2 times as much for a car that says Acura instead of Honda. I dont care. Let them call my SKS's ugly it would make me smile as I outshot them, I shoot my firearms, dont polish them and put them back in my safe.

Thinking of cutting off the bayo lug for the one that goes on this stock.

I heard they are going to make one with a bayo cutout for next year.

Which one are you looking at? The "target" styled one or the regular?

they have a regular one? did they remove that excessive glob of wood from underneath it? Thats the only part I dont like about them, the bottom looks like a beached whale

Putting a beautiful custom stock on an SKS is like putting an elevator in an outhouse...it just don't fit :)

While not my cup of tea, I don't agree. I think the SKS is a fine rifle, and deserving of whatever "bling" the owner wishes to put on it.

I shipped my two SKS's to Murdoc for an expensive parkerizing and arma-coating job for practical (weather resistance) and "bling factor" reasons. Why? 'cause these two specimens are capable of 1 to 3 inch groups at 100 meters, stone axe reliable, and I really like the way they look.

Kurgan, what colours did you choose for your SKS's? I'm really looking forward to seeing them completed

My 1952 mild refurb laminate:
All metal components including the bayonet will be parkerized then arma-coated in olive green (military green).
This also includes a spare 30-round metal magazine.
The wood stock is going to be arma-coated woodland brown, OR a woodland brown based camo
I am keeping the bolt and bolt carrier in their natural chromed/polished state.

My 1954 mild refurb laminate:
All metal components including the bayonet will be parkerized then arma-coated in matte black
I have already refinished the arsenal fitted 1950's laminate stock in tung oil and I am very happy with the results, so the stock will not get arma-coated.
I am keeping the bolt and bolt carrier in their natural chromed/polished state.

I am as excited as a kid in a candy store. Its the first time that I have had professional refinishing to metal components done. I think the rifles will look great, and offer a level of weather/wear protection that you can't buy off the shelf.

I have two other SKS's that are non-refurbished, unissued and unfired that will stay in their original state, so I don't feel too bad about "bubba'ing" a couple of nice Russian refurbs.
