I am looking for some lanolin to make up a batch of Felix lube, and was wondering where I could look for this stuff.
Thanks Gord

Health food/supplement stores would carry liquid lanolin. Mix a 4oz bottle into a liter of 99% rubbing alcohol from shoppers and you're set for a long time. It helps to warm the alcohol before mixing.

If you want the thick gooy stuff (which you do for bullet lube), tell the pharmacist that you want anhydrous lanolin. They use it to make up creams. Best bet is to get them to order in a tub for you.

Other lanolin creams for nursing moms and so forth have all sort of other things in them.

If you have any dairy farms around anhydrous lanolin is used as teat treatment. Felix lube works great in everything I load. Great Stuff. The initial half hour of stiring is necessary but a bit of a drag.

Lanolin is arguably the best case lube there is. It is not cheap, but a wee little bit is all that is required on a case for resizing. However, it seems like overkill to use it for bullet lube, when there is no end of lubricants, both commercial and household, that work just fine.

That is also true for bullets. why cast your own when their are so many commercial casters out there. Well it is all about a hobby. Felix lube has proven to be a great bullet lube, developed by my friend Felix Robbins down in Arkansas. There are a great number of excellent home made lubes listed on the cast boolit forum.

For those of us who like to do our own thing and perhaps gain on what is avaiilable commercially...why not make your own.

There's a place in the US that sells the anhydrous lanolin at a much better price, those small amounts bought at the drug store will send you to the poor house if you use as much as i do. Try Pine Meadows 801-221-0483, you might google them on the confuser, buying a large amount is the only way it will pay.Why do I give away all my trade secrets???

I find that most of those lubes are messy and no better then some of the newer Lubes using Carnauba/beeswax and other ingredients. I find the Lanolin works best for me as an ingredient in Black Powder Lube, where you can't/shouldn't use any petroleum products in your lube. Messy lubes play havoc with your die settings and require that you clean out your dies regularly, I find the Lee Alox one of the worst for this.IMHO
