Alchemy Extrusions is a company in Hamilton Ontario that will supply you with any hardness of lead you would need for casting bullets. I plan on buying from them when my wheel weights run out. They will ship anywhere in the world. Search name on web and you will get their web site. I have no idea what their prices are though. Wheel weights are going the way of the Dodo bird. I thought I would share this info for anybody interested. Happy shooting.

Shipping lead would be expensive. Before I pay to ship lead I would probably just go to wallyworld and buy a 10lbs downrigger ball and be done with it .

For those close the U.S. border you can order from Roto Metals and have it shipped to a mailbox service in a border town, they have free shipping anywhere in the lower 48.

It won't help if you live in the country but many municipalities used lead pipe for the water supply into homes.
I was able to obtain many pounds of scrap lead pipe that had been removed. It made excellent bullets.

I have been scrounging lead for years and have lots , but it is good to know that there is somewhere I can order a specific alloy , especially if they have something like roto metals super hard , I may need some of that to sweeten up some of the soft lead I have

I have a little bit of wheel weight ingots and some cast already I have a source for WW now im not going to reveal it I will end up buying more alloy some linotype and 20/1

Yeah. I been stockpiling wheel weights for the last year I have about 1500 lbs of ingots and 3 more 5 gal pails full I gotta melt down yet. And I have about another 3 more waiting at work for me.

Your local garage's......
A box of donuts and a tray of coffee...or a cold 24 on a hot friday afternoon has provided me with several buckets of WW....just sayin'
Tried that and got nothing. Seems everyone around me has contracts where they pay "green recycling" companies to pickup the wheel weights.
Yes, the shops pay for the wheel weights to be disposed of as opposed to getting paid for them as scrap metal. Hard for me to wrap my head around. It's like paying someone to pickup buckets of money from you because you don't know what else to do with it.

I've had a couple friends smuggle me a box of wheel weights here and there so I've got maybe 50lbs of lead for free but nothing for almost 6 months now. Other than that I've been paying $50 for 25lbs of hardened lead shot from a LGS.

Green recycling. Maybe some places but not many do that I understand. I work at can tire and I get all of the wheel weights that come through our shop. We used to take em to scrap yard get 20$ per pail and buy pizza or spaghetti for shop. Then again that's only here.

I sympathize....I guess I should have mentioned being friends with a couple of mechanics helps. I'm getting on this lead hoarding bandwagon before it's too late.....

There is a closed tire shop close to me I have to check out soon. I tried the old flashing for air vents on the roofs of houses and found that here in Quebec they didn't use it a lot in my area. My other source is a lot of work but I keep having to replace old lead headed nails on roofs with screws and I get a bit of lead that way.

Some neighbourhood hardware stores could have old lead flashing laying around waiting for a buyer. I saw a stack of vent flashing in the one around the corner from me a couple of years ago. I don't roll my own so didn't have a use for it...

I bought my lead from a scrap yard last winter. 3 barrels of mixed lead. About a ton after all was said and done.
If you can find a scrap dealer within driving distance, try and hit them in the spring or in the fall. Wait until everybody has changed their snow tires for summer tires or vice versa.
There will be a good selection of wheel weight lead when the tire shops send in all of their scrap lead. It doesn't all go to the "green' recyclers.
During the summer might be a good time to try for the softer lead, as construction work will dig up old lead pipes, etc.
I heard on the news that Brandon mb was going to dig up a bunch of their old water lines because they were lead. Should happen in the next couple of years, I guess. I don't know where the lead would end up, but it couldn't hurt to start asking around...

I've had better luck getting wheel weights from the smaller shops than the big chains. Just got three buckets over the holidays. Looks like mostly lead too, not that zinc or iron crap.

The pipe itself is good, but be careful of the pieces making up any joints or bends. I had a problem with it being too hard and affecting the batches I melted it with.
