South African .308 @ $1 a round WTF?

Were in the world do you get a hold of these "Berdan Primers"? Cuz Like a good boy I horded all my left over brass and wouldn't mind reloading these!
They are much more expensive than Boxer, and much harder to remove. I would suggest new brass, especially for such a common one as 308.

And that would be roughly....

The point being is CanAm has to do Million round orders. (Give or Take)
Sure, some of us would pay a good price for some quality .308...but he would be stuck with a small mountain of it....

1000 cases (million rounds) $900 each = $900,000 (example pricing)

sells 500 cases over a few months...... still sitting on $450,000 worth of ammo.

Ouch:cool:

I used to love the South African ammo and glad I bought some when I did.
I paid half the price we pay for it now and I thought that was bad.

Got into reloading and got some good deals on brass, boxer primed on CGN. Kind of a kick trying to make everything exact, but its slow.

P2,

On the topic of reloading, it's something I'm going to get into to feed my .270 bolt action.

As far as .308 goes, I've heard 2 distinctive points of view:

1. You want to reload for an M14? I wouldn't be prepared for misfires, misfeeds and :eek:slam-fires. The correct primers are very hard to get. Almost impossible to do it right. Save yourself the trouble and buy milsurp if you want to save some cash. I have a lot of it I'd like to sell at going prices. Don't reload, buy my stuff.

2. From an experienced handloader that will be my mentor. He calls bull#### on #1 as long as cases aren't mixed, the proper loads are used, track is kept of the number of uses, case length is monitored and everything is done properly.

So for the money I would spend on a box of surplus, I could buy a LEE kit, various sundries and reloadable commercial ammo. What a frickin dilemma and the rifle hasn't even arrived yet. :runaway:

What is your success with reloading .308?

I got the last pack of that surplus just before the show closed.

95$ couldn't turn it down.

Wish there was more.

Still expensive for surplus IMO, this same stuff was way cheaper when it first showed up in Canada a few years ago.

Man, you guys think you pay out the ying-yang ... at least you can drive to a shop and get ammo ... :(
