South African surplus 308?

Ok so now I know Dr. Chris Watson is head of the ERD.
Do I think he would give me an honest answer as to why we have no 7.62X51 surplus coming into this country? No I do not because I doubt hes on our side.

So if someone here knows the answer, please enlighten me.

Is it because the word "military surplus" is a big scary word and frightens the general public?:runaway:
Is it because the ERD does not like countries like South Africa and Portugal but is just fine with places like Czechoslovakia and their 7.62X39?
Is it because ammunition loaded for military contract is so vastly different from my box of Winchester and is not safe for me to use?
Is it because its former NATO ammunition and as such twice as dangerous as any other ammo and will explode upon opening the box?
Good heavens Watson, what's in this stuff?? Plutonium!!!???:runaway:

NRCAN has nothing to do with the dearth SA surplus, it is up to dealers and foreigh suppliers. I see no great supply of it in the US. It is certainly not comeing out of SA.

Didn't Marstar mention they had 3 million rounds of 7.62mm "off shore?" I have no other info. on why this isn't in country.

They have lots of POF surplus in the good ol USA right now. 1000 rnd cans of 147gr fmj's. They have all the ammo in the world and we get nothing:confused:.

Also just checked AIM surplus they have, Brit, Belgian, German and SA. And as Graeco pointed out there's the whole Chinese ammo thing with Marstar.
Something is preventing it from coming in. I know myself and every other guy that owns an M14 wants this stuff.

I heard that South Africa stopped selling off surplus ammo some years ago. (some UN agreement or voluntary thing). No doubt there are dealers and brokers out there that still have some, but I doubt we will see much (any?) of it.

There was a major scandal some years ago regarding SA surplus ammunition that was supposed to be scrapped showing up all over the world. I'm not sure if there has been much SA milsurp exported since. Others may know.

Any new information or updates as far as why this stuff is no go , is it possibly because of the war and the shortage of ammunition ?
Is is not "no go" it is perfectly legal and approved for importation, but there is none on the market (other than a bit left in the US retail) since ZA banned it's export.

well, our ammo dealers would sure be doing us a favor by getting us some goddam 7.62 surplus....... I'm getting bored listening to reasons as to why there's none in this country but can readily find it across the line for MUCH lower prices than what was sold here when last availlable.

just import the shiit , we'll buy it for christ's sake
if i sound a little edgy on the subject, it's because i've been hearing excuses for 2 years now....... show us the fricken ammo already.

If you wanna pony up the money i will put you in touch with someone in SA that can make it happen, the ammo is not in SA but is in the area. The amount they want to sell is to rich for my blood.

I've got a few battle packs of the SA. Generally it's pretty decent. I did open one recently that has blank paper labels on the boxes and about 4 or 5 out of 10 of those won't cycle my N14.

Lots of it imported here in NZ, but the supply does seem to be drying up, and prices increasing to nearly NZD$1 a round.

I bought two 140 round battlepacks to run through my M305, but it pierces primers so I'll buy no more of it. I've had no problem shooting German MEN, Aussie F4 or Malaysian surplus through it.

I shot a few rounds through my Remington 700VS, but it didn't shoot to well through that.
