Well it's a damned cold night to be gutting and skinning a deer. -20 here right now. But I got a call from the police, and off I went.
Fair sized doe this time, maybe two years old. Fat like I've never seen before on a winter deer.
Inch thick fat from her front shoulders all the way back to her butt, and it was probably a bit more than an inch there.
The winter here has been an easy one on the deer. That's obvious.
The deer came from about half way between bigredd's place and mine. A bit south of the Devil's Elbow ski area.

Good to hear, the coyotes are running the deer pretty hard up this way, Bruce County. Was out in the bush before tonights snow and the snow was deep enough to hide the food but not deep enough to slow down the dogs, found one dead fawn. It would be a chilly night in the bush, -18 here tonight without the wind.

Stay outa my hood J/C...;)
County road 38 Bethany to Omemee and 7-A to Fowlers Corners... is one of the highest deer collision areas in the Province.

The amount of fat reserves on the deer at this time of year bodes well for high winter survival and birth rates in the spring.:)

For the North Bay area report:

All seems well, but the yard territory has tightened up quite a bit lately. The weather is finally not in their favor. But the deer I have seen are healthy and feeding well.

I can also say there is one less coyote to bother them this winter....:D :D :D :D :D
