I"m going to the Pierre area on my first pheasant hunt. Any advice on what to bring, what not to that is readily avialable in the area etc. Also, any regs on importing shotguns to the U.S.?
You'll have to fill out a form and mail it to the BATF to get approved. You will need a hunting license from a US state. If you don't have your South Dakota one, get the Alaska small game license online and print it out to send along. It takes about 1 month minimum to get approved. If you can, provide a fax number rather than having the approval mailed.
http://www.losttarget.com/form6 is the best resource for completing your Form6 application that I know of. It will have links to the forms. Numbers to fax your application into. Examples of how to fill in your application... etc etc
I personally prefer using a North Dakota license... it's cheaper.
I took a pheasant hunting trip in the Pierre area a few years ago. Great time - you'll see more bird in one morning than in a whole lifetime in Canada!
