South paw shooters, where do you get your guns?

My question, does anyone have a left handed 22 hornet or 222 or 6mm they could get rid of ot a spot to order them from? Both my local shops can't get any in. I just prefer left hand guns. My first ever gun was left handed and it's what I shoot. No different than a ringer handed shooter not wanting to shoot a left handed gun, I'm a left handed shooter and don't want to shoot a right handed gun.

I'm a lefty and shoot all left handed rifles. But I learned on right handed bolts Won an ORA ripid fire competition at Cedar springs in the early 60's. This was using Lee enfolds with you support arm in a two pint sling. When Remington first came out wi LH BDL's I crossed the border to Williams gun sight because they Had a discounted price for law enforcement officers. Since that point most of my purchases have been Left handed except for a few in calibers not available left handed. I have none of those left. Telling a left handed rifle is like telling a right hander that he should buy a LH rifle.
There are still many Lh rifles available.Cooper is readily available but might entail a few month wait. The Montana rifles are available in the same calibers as Right handed. You can get a LH Zastava in pretty much the same calibers as right handed. Weatherby still makes some Lh models. Browning has a good selection. Savage and Remington still make some models in Lh although Remington only makes the short actions in the cheaper(all round cheaper0 sps version and savage no longer makes their better rifles in Lh.

All in all there is excuse not to have a LH rifle unless you don't want to with for the delivery time

In two LH instances I suggest you search for the Browning Micro A-Bolt II in 22 Hornet and for the 6mm a Remington 788. Unfortunately both have been discontinued.

For current firearms, I am pretty sure you could find a Cooper single shot in 222 Remington. Not 100% certain that they make it in a repeater though.

I'm a south paw and have dozens of left handed bolt actions. They are as natural for me to shoot as a right handed one is to a right hander. I have personally never heard a right handed person complain about shooting a right handed bolt action and wanted a left handed bolt action because the right handed ones are "awkward". You can get left handed ones very reasonably priced if budget conscious or the moon if funds are unlimited. Offerings off the shelf range from simple .22s to .458 Win. Mag.

Yes, quite true. I am a southpaw as well. I shoot left hand bolts because they are far more natural to use than right hand ones. After trying my first LH bolt, I never looked back; operating a RH bolt just feels awkward and unnatural in comparison( for me anyway). In terms of acquiring LH guns, I've picked them up from vendors including site sponsors such Epps, Guns and Games, and, Frontier in Saskatchewan.

Tikka makes a 204 Ruger, 222 Rem, 223 Rem (in 8 twist and 12 twist), 243 Win (6mm), and 260 Rem (6.5mm) all in left hand. Again, I would give Prophet River Firearms a call. They are a site sponsor, excellent to deal with and make an effort to stock at least some left handed firearms. Depending where you are in SK they may not be that far away from you either.

On edit: Just for the helluvit, checked PR's website. No fewer than 13 Tikkas for sale in left hand, including 204 Ruger, 222 Rem, 223 Rem, 243 Win, and 260 Rem. (A couple in 9.3X62 as well, hhhmmmmm, gives ME an idea:evil:) Sako LH in 25-06, 7X64, and 8X57, and LH Cooper 51 in 204R, M54 in 257 Roberts, and 260 Rem. The Coopers and Sakos may be a little more than you want to put out but what's not to like about a $1000 Tikka in your choice of calibre with NO WAIT??

Happy Shooting;)

Bashaw Sporting goods is usually well stocked in lefties, as is Prophet River. A wtb on the EE sometimes will land one, but it usually is higher priced the the righthnded equivelant.

I have noticed that let handed guns are always more expensive and re-selling takes a long time. But the few I plan on getting I don't ever want to unload. 22 hornet. 222, 6mm, 17 rem, those are all calibers that are probably next to impossible to sell second hand. However, 223, 22-250, 204, are probably a lot easier to sell because they're easy to find calibers. But why shoot easy to find calibers when you can shoot odd ball? lol

I'm left handed. I tend to buy guns that are not left handed but somewhat ambidextrous. For instance, I own a Mossberg 500 combo, the 500 has a safety that is ambidextrous. The ejection port is still on the right hand side and the spent casings do go across my field of vision and therefor closer to my face than a left hand would... however in thousands of rounds there has never been an issue.

As for handguns, I don't find much of a problem there either... I shoot a Ruger SR9 that has a few ambidextrous features as well.

The only real type of gun I have problems with are bolt actions of they are not left handed... but lucky for me I've never been a bolt action fan even when I shot a left handed on

The thing we being left handed is sometimes it sucks but we adapt

I get my lefthanded guns from the righthanded store since my lefthand is useless to do anything with. Even my lever action is not the best for me to operate. The only problem I have faced is the great deals on guns I have had to pass on due to roll over combs with sharp edges they tend to hurt when fired for some reason.

I own only 1 left hand rifle. I find it really awkward. I bought it because of my concern for the safety of my right eye which is right behind the ejection port. There is no other reason for a lefty to own a l.h. rifle imo. When i hear about people reaching over the top to cycle the action i think what a story i have never seen anyone do that.

The biggest problem with LH guns is not the aquiring. It is in the selling. When you decide you no longer want it, a LH rifle will be a serious PIA to get rid of for any decent price.

This was part of the logic with my newest toy. Picked myself up a Savage Axis RH in .223. I figured if I didn't like it, it'd be easier to sell. Working a right handed bolt off of a bipod is a southpaw's dream. The issue I now have, is that the Axis is a long action no matter what calibre it's in. If it was a short action, I would have no problem. But as it's a long action, I end up punching myself in the nose while cycling the bolt... I think I'm just going to buy a rail for it (as opposed to the 2 piece bases that came with) and mount the scope a little further back (which I wanted to do anyways). As a lefty, I've been compromising and adapting my whole life... Most of my other rifles are either lever, or semi-auto; but my little Savage .22 is a LH bolt, and I like it.

I would check out the gun auctions taking place in your area and at your local gun range if they have any. I attended a gun auction last year at a small gun club in ontario and although the left hand gun selection was limited, the left handed guns went at a steal because there were so few people there that wanted a lefty. I ended up buying a brand new savage 111 30-06 for $375. Only bought it because no one was bidding. Sold it on the EE at a reasonable price that same afternoon and made a small profit and a lefty got a gun he needed. Just something to keep your eyes open for.

I personally have bought and sold over a hundred of left handed bolt actions over the years, Never once have I encountered a problem with this. Not to be that guy, and make this an EE rant (99+% of my buy/sell/trades are not reflected on this board) but as long as the guns are priced realistically they usually sell without too much effort.

BS, biggest lh myth out there in my opinion. I've sold dozens of lh rifles over the years without any issues and at very acceptable prices. I've also missed out on buying many due to the fact that they are snapped up shortly after being listed for sale. In fact, I've had more trouble selling the handful of rh rifles that I've flipped than any lh sale.

Iam a lefty also, What bassman said couldnt be closer to the truth. I have a few discontinued lefty rifles if you are a Gun Nut you will know who is a lefty and most times we all sell to upgrade or thin the herd you need to be on the ball when these show up . If your a true lefty you will always buy left and never shoot right . I hunt with a guy that is a lefty but shoots a righty he says he more fluid with with it . He sure looks clumsy cycling a bolt I guess he has convinced himself its propper

I'm a Lefty and started out with RH guns. Now I'm in the process of slowly buying all Left Handed guns. If you don't buy them they won't make them. Nuff Said.

A have yet to meet a right-hander that feels more comfortable shooting a LH bolt than a RH one...

When I first started hunting I convinced myself that I was happy shooting a RH, that's until I picked up a beauty LH Sako AV Deluxe in 7mm.
Now all my rifles are LH and I'm much-much happier. The biggest problem with being a lefty is picking up the latest hunting mag that lists
all the new designs that are only offered in RH.

Exactly. Using the logic of some on this thread, all right handers ought to be switching to left hand bolts lol
