Hey folks. My newest purchase should be arriving in a few days..

I ended up buying a mosin nagant with the pu scope from westrifle today.

I am looking for anyone in southern ontario who has - or is currently using one. I would love to go to a range and get some help sighting the scope. It's the reproduction pu scope. I have been reading up on how to do it, but it's always good to have someone around who's done it before.

Also, and tips / tricks on non-invasive methods on making the old nagant more accurate would be great.

If anyone is interested shoot me a pm or post here :)

Cheers!

Some good links here to follow up on, plus a great video of a 1,000 yard shoot of the 91/30 sniper… :D

Got my rifle in the mail today from westrifle. The scope seems to be of excellent quality. Feels very sturdy and sight picture is awesome.

Any takers yet? Southern ontario scoped mosin nagant users?

where are you at in southern ont if you bought a repo sinper it has a repo mount and scope these ones can be tricky

the 91/30 will group nicely with 147gr light steel ball(silver tip)

now i have not touched a 91/30 with a pu scope but i hear the real pu scopes where the easiest scope to sight in my m44 shoots nice with a scout scope

id love to shoot it as im looking to buy one soon

I've been running a PE scoped Mosin for a year and a bit now. It's a decent setup, though the nostalgia factor is its strongest point.

What are you wondering about in particular? Sighting in with a PE or a PU is great fun, usually a one or two shot affair after a little practice.

yep alot better over a ww2 k98 scoped

I do have a repro. I got it from westrifle as they had a sale on them.

I am East of the GTA these days.

RIMFIREMAC: I have never sighted in a scope period. More or less I am looking for someone who has done it before to walk me through it. Kind of a shot in the dark - but it doesn't hurt to try. I am a little nervous about filing any metal - as (1) I don't even know what file I would use and (2) I'd be worried about doing more damage than good.

I am quite excited to shoot this rifle.

CAMERL2009: What is this 147gr light steel ball(silver tip). I know it's ammo - but who makes it - and where can I grab some?

Well the best advice I can think of is start at short range and work your way out. Get it sighted at 25 yards first, then 50, then 100. If you start right off the bat at 100 you might go thru a box of ammo before figuring out where you're slinging the lead to.

If the scope is such that you can see the reticle move a lot when you turn a turret a little, the sight in process is simple:
1. Fire one shot, and keep in mind where you were aiming when you broke the shot
2. Look thru the scope to find the hole.
3. Aim back at the point the reticle was at when you released the shot.
4. Keeping the rifle as steady as you can, dial the reticle up and over to now point at the impact hole. It works well to do this in two stages- ie first dial it up to the correct elevation, then recenter your sight picture, as you will have wiggled just a little bit in the process, and then dial it over for the proper windage setting.
Done!
