Just sayin hi. :runaway:

I'm new to the forums and new to guns, just picked up a Savage 111 .300 Win Mag a couple days ago.

This looks like a decent place to find some good info for my next gun/guns! :D

Lemme get this straight you just got your license and your first purchase is a 300 win mag in a 6 pound rifle?:eek: Have you fired it yet? You are setting yourself up for a terrible flinch! Not trying to flame you just trying to give some advice. I don't think there is a Gunnut on here that would recommend a .3oo win mag as a first rifle!

But welcome aboard. There is lots you will learn on this forum.

I think your first lesson will come with the first trip to the range.:D

Interesting point... So what is a good starter gun for a newbie? I was thinking of buying the cheapest 22 I could get my hands on (maybe an old bolt action Cooey or something). Not so much because I'm afraid of recoil but more for the cheap ammo...

hahaa! Yes I have fired it already! :D I knew it was going to pack an extra punch, and I have been around air powered guns so I'm not new to shooting, just to the extra firepower! Thanks for the greetings! :D

"...go my friends place who's got a good 90 acres to shoot on..." Got a hunting licence? Ontario' MNR considers 'hunting' to be the only reason to have a firearm in the bush or field. Unless your buddy has a safe place to shoot(A range. You must know exactly what is behind the backstop out to several miles.), you'll likely be visited by the local Conservation Officer(CO).
You'll want to rummage through the By-laws of the county your buddy's property is in too. Some of 'em have a calibre restriction by-law.

Heh Survivor Rye, I would'nt worry about a .300win mag for your first rifle. I got a Rem mod700BDL in .300Mag also for my first rifle. I needed a gun quick for Moose season, and I got it for a good deal. I am not a big guy, about 5'10 170lbs, and I had no problem shooting a .300mag. It has a little bit of kick, but pretty manageable. If you start flinching, then just start practiceing with a .22 and that will go away.

Thanks for the encouragement! :D My first shot with it for sure I was a little bit startled lol but I'm pretty confident I can handle it alright. :D

I am new as well to CGN, welcome. I had just received a .308 Rem bolt action, and it kicks, at least I think so, I couldn't imagine a 300 Win Mag. I hope you enjoy yourself and CGN as much as I do, the people here are pretty straight forward, good to have when starting out new.
