I was at Waterford this past weekend for the BB course with my SP01 tactical - decocker version. So far the course has been a LOT of fun. The gun performed great with my reloads. The tactical sights & 11lbs/14lbs springs made a huge difference. I just love this gun.

Anyway, one thing came up during the course that I need your help with. The SP01 tactical version does not have an external safety. When you decocke, the hammer is left at the half way position. During practice at the BB, one of the instructors asked me to fully lower the hammer. He also showed me the rule book which states that the hammer needs to be all the way down in production division and start from DA.
I told him that I read somewhere that wherever the decocker leaves the hammer is considered fully decocked. Was I wrong? Do I have to lower the hammer all the way?

Thanks

It's covered under Rule 8.1.2.2 (Handgun Ready Position) - “Double action” – chamber loaded, hammer fully down or de-cocked.

Just de-cocking is sufficient.

I should have also posted 8.1.2.3 “Selective action” – chamber loaded with hammer fully down, or chamber loaded and hammer
cocked
with external safety engaged.

How about - Appendix D4 - 17. "Single-action-only handguns are prohibited. Handguns with external hammers must be fully decocked. First
shot attempted must be double action."

Does 8.1.2.2 supersed Appendix D4?

You can do back and forth on this all day; IPSC production rules committee/etc officially replied that where ever the decocker leaves the hammer, that's decocked, for ipsc/production purposes. If there is no decocker, you have to manually lower it all the way down.

Every now and again I run into an official/etc who doesn't know about this, and they substitute their interpretation of the rules in place of an official rulling. There are very few guns whose decockers don't put the hammer all the way today, the CZs are one of those (the sp01 tactical and the c-75bd come to mind).

:runaway: All these rules...Man this new "Open Production Division" is hard on the head :runaway: :onCrack: hehehe :nest:

SP-01 Tactical

I was beginning to think I was the only one in the world using a Tactical in IPSC, nice to see I'm not alone. I took the black badge with my SP-01 Tactical. The first half manually decocking as I was instructed to do, the last half using the decocking lever after some further discussion between instructors. It does seem to be an area where we need to get the word out.

I think I'll print the thread out and take with me to matches.
