Hi,

I'm finding that different combinations of extractor + recoil spring give me different level of reliability, with different ammo types... Just curious what people are using...

For myself, I use the default factory recoil spring (18lb, I'm going to guess?) with an extra power cz-usa extractor spring, with winclean 115gr.

In the gun of a student, I tried using the 11lb recoil with the extra power extractor spring but I found that the spring didn't have enough oomph to bend the extractor craw 'around' rounds, when the slide was going forward (so the slide would stop, and you'd need to give it a tap to get it closed)... Without the extra power XP extractor spring, I'd get ejection problems (sometimes stovepipes, but today I noticed a lot of cases where the brass was only half pulled from the chamber). Obviously that combo isn't going to work, so I'll switch...

Comments, SP01 or SP01 Shadow users?

I had a lot of stove pipes when I first got my SP01.

I ran a stock extractor spring with stock recoil spring with BDX 124 grain ammo pf 132.

I switched to an 11lb recoil and 15 main and ran my own reloads 147 grain pf 125-130. Ran great.

I was pestered by a few people that I shoot with that my brass wasnt kicking out consistently in the same spot. So I tried an extra power extractor spring.

Still have it in but took a couple of thousand to get rid of the occasional stove pipe that popped up every hundred rounds or so. Runs fine now.
 
I'm also using a 11lb recoil with a 15 main for reloads,and a 14lb recoil spring with factory ammo.
The factory springs are way to heavy unless your using +p ammo.I'm using the extra power extractor, but I never really had a problem with the stock extractor.
 
In my SP-01 I use the regular extractor spring, 15# mainspring and 14# recoil spring from a CZ75B. No problems so far regardless of brand or bullet weight I have used. Round count to date is just under 4000 :D.
 
Stock extractor, 14# Recoil for factory ammo and reloads, and factory main spring. I put in a lighter recoil spring when I first got the SP-01 because I was getting a lot of malfunctions even with factory ammo and that solved the problem. Then I put in a lighter main spring to try to improve the trigger pull, which I think is the weakest part of this fabulous handgun. I started to get misfires with the lighter spring because it wasn't setting off the handloaded primers. I put the factory mainspring back in and it's perfect with all loads and now after 1500 rnds through it the trigger is better too.
 
Kinda same but different subject. ANyone have an idea what the Shadow comes with in regards to spring weight? Will it function with 132-134pf rounds?

I am not sure what the factory is installing in the SP-01 Shadow. All I can say is the springs are lighter than what has been installed in a standard SP-01. With 132-134pf loads, I use a 14# recoil spring in my SP-01.

So somewhere in the middle I would guess....? In the write up, it mentions slighter lighter recoil spring, and I thought I read somewhere it has a lighter main spring?
 
Yes, the Shadow has a lighter main and recoil springs. So far I have been unable to find out what the weights are. Somewhere in the middle? Maybe.
 
the recoil spring which comes with the shadow is supposedly the standard cz-75/85 spring, which I think is just the 14lb one... don't know re main spring.

Untrue. Same spring weights. At least thats what I recieved from CRAFM.

Same spring weights as in a standard SP-01?? That is not what CZ-UB has stated in their spec sheet. I wish CZ-UB had listed the pounds rating and not just stated lighter main and recoil springs.

The recoil spring which comes with the SP01 and SP01 tactical (that flat, metal spring) is stronger than the recoil springs which came with the pre-SP01 CZ-75 and CZ-85 pistols... The pre-SP01 recoil spring "standard" was 14lb - that's what regular CZ-75s and CZ-85s (9mm, that is) come with. The SP01, by default, comes with that extra oomph recoil spring, I have no idea what the actual poundage is, but I remember hearing 18lb somewhere. That's the spring you'll get with your SP01 and SP01 Tactical, and that's the spring which will give you lots of stovepipes unless you're using really hot/snappy ammo...

For the Shadow, apparently, they went back to the pre-SP01 default spring of 14lb, so that's what that gun has (so you don't need that hot/snappy ammo).

So, for (9mm) CZ-75, CZ-85, and CZ-75 SP01 Shadow, the factory default recoil spring is 14lb; for the SP01 and SP01 Tactical, it's (say) 18lb.


That's about it...
