hey,

I've been shooting pistols for over 10 years now, and this is the first time that my wrist(s) hurt after shooting... I noticed the pain a couple of times after shooting, but didn't really connect it with the newly obtained SP01 until a few days ago. I shot it today, together with my Tanfoglio L, and there is definitely a much more prenounced shock which goes into my left (weak) wrist when shooting the SP01, compared to the L. Given that I do a lot of typing both professionally and personally, I really don't want to do anything to agravate the situation any more (the pain is very much the RSI/Carpal Tunnel type sensation I get when I type too much in strange wrist position, plus my left wrist is the one more prone to rsi pain).

I'll try it a couple/few more times to see what happens, but if this persists, I'll be moving back to the L for competitions... No shortage of people who want to shoot the SP01s in matches, so they weren't a waste of money (if this happens), but just means I might need to get another Tanfoglio for backup...

Are you holding it a little differently or are the grips different or different material so that you have to hold the SP01 a bit tighter?

I had a similar problem with one gun and a slight change in the way I gripped it plus relaxing the hand fixed the problem.

The only thing I can relate to is I had a Remington 870 (18.5") with pistol grips only (front and back).

I went through at least 6 boxes of regular shells (#2 Winchester White Box) in a fast and fuirious pace. All the while I was thinking "wow, this kinda hurts my wrists". The next day both wrists were very sore and I felt the effects for almost 6 months afterwards (e.g. I'd open a jar and feel a super sharp pain shoot through one of my wrists). Their fine now though.

Perhaps your wrists are suffering more than mine?

The only other thing I shot which made me stop shooting for fear of a repeat was a .44 Magnum revolver with some hot loads (I fired off 3 and that was enough).

Hey nancy... have you thought it might be that your aggravating your pain by your grip angle? Or by griping to tightly? There are some limited excersizes you can do for carpal tunnel. Having worked with some of my employees who have had carpal. Re-evaluate your grip and the pressure you are holding it at. If it doesnt go away either change your grip/grips or get rid of the pistol. YOu dont want permanent carpal issues..

eh... maybe its time to join TEAM HK!

No problems with my SP-01 although I haven't shot much with it yet, just about 300 rds for the IPSC course. I did have some soreness in the forearm of my weak hand and attributed it to the fact that I haven't used handguns very much yet. The soreness disappeared in a day or two. I think you should be very cautious about assigning a cause to the RSI/carpal tunnel issue. There are many possible reasons for wrist pain including such things as previous injuries, TMS (see TMShelp.com) and many others. The weight and recoil of any handgun can aggravate previous pain as well. It would be a shame to get rid of such a nice handgun unless you can definitively attribute the cause of the pain to it.

well, I wouldn't expect people with healthy wrists to run into any problems, I've had problems with my wrists (especially the left one) for years, on and off. It never got to be debilitating, since I'd always take time off from typing for a while... I'm sure it does have to do with the angle and stuff - I also found that I need to apply more sideways pressure with the SP01 since the gun points naturally a bit to the left for me, so I need to push it more with the left hand to get it on target - it's an issue for the followup shots (so if I'm not paying attention I'd get A-C on targets, with the C being the second shot, to the left of the A). The Tanfoglio points much more naturally for me...

I won't get rid of the SP01, in fact I have 2 and will probably get another one, but those will be for the hart house ipsc shooters who come with me, until they get their own equipment. Too bad... I like the balance of the SP01 and its accuracy is superior to the L, but in the end, it's a hobby - can't risk perm joint damage, especially since we're already talking about a weakend wrist.

So, IF you have any kind of wrist issues, be warned that an SP01 MIGHT aggravate it. This is shooting WinClean 124gr (142PF). I'll try finding some puff loads (hey, ipsc1, can I get some more of your ammo ;) ) and test with those... Maybe that will help and make it tolerable...

You might want to try Steyr M9-A1; it's very light and because of the super low bore axis and good ergonomics the gun has extremely little recoil. Just a thought....

If you are around the area, and want to try my USP let me know. Its probably a combination of finger pressure and hand angle which is causing you the problems.
