You arent the first person to have told me this, which is why I've delayed ordering one

I think its all in a person's head. As Tom Roster said, "after thousands of rounds fired on the pattern board and in slow motion video photography I've yet to see any proof aftermarket specialty chokes makers can prove their claims". And nobody in North America and possibly the world has more testing experience than Roster.

The most common complaint that I hear (or read) about with choke tubes is that they are not milled to close enough tolerances by the gun makers. For instance if full choke is supposed to be .690 inches and the gun manufacturers choke measures .692 then guys figure this isn't good enough so they spend hundreds of dollars on an aftermarket tube set that is milled to precisely the right measurement. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard and I'd defy anyone to shoot better with a tube that is milled to a closer tolerance because wing shooting is not about shooting at precice yardages. Basically if the choke tube will put x % of shot into a 30 inch circle at a given distance then it doesn't matter what the tube measures. Complainers about imprecisely milled tubes are usually the guys who have ten choke tubes of different sizes in their shooting bag because they feel that they have the ability to judge the distance to a flying target within a couple of yards! The majority of shooters could get away with 3 tubes marked close, medium, and far because you still have to place the shot accurately or you will miss, simple as that!

The reason im looking at chokes for 10 ga is the fact the browning i just bought didnt come with any. I do have specailty chokes for other guns and they do make a huge improvement such as my .650 wilson precision choke for my mossberg. Its extremely tight patterning. Borderline to tight. I usually just get ic mod and full and xfull and go with that but ive played around and different chokes do make a difference. So does brand of shell to.
As for the carlson choke i bought in turkey for my a400 the factory full with flight control wadded ammo beat it everytime. Any ammo without flight control the carlson was better but only slightly. Not enough to make a differnece.

The reason i want after market tubes for my new browning is i prefer extented tubes. No need to carry a wrench snd every couple volleys of fire i can loosen and retighten them to keep them from sticking

I also prefer the extended chokes, even if the only benefit ends up being some protection for the end of the barrel from rubbing against a gun case when slipping it in or from sliding inside the boat or duck blind. The finish at the end of a barrel can be prone to wear when using some cases where you have to push the gun into it

Walked into wortners last night and bought a set of factory replacement invector choke tubes for a fraction of the cost carlson or briley. Way cheaper than anywhere else as well. Ill pattern them as soon as i get time.

Keep us posted what choke you buy and how it patterns. I wouldn't mind picking up a couple different ones for my Gold

The standard invector browning ic lead mod steel flush choke threw a beautiful pattern at 30 yards with #2. Few holes with BB loads but would easily cancel a ducks flight. The mod lead full steel choke was a winner with a dense 2'x2' pattern at 35 yards with bb and #2. The ic choke was still decent with #2 and bb load left a couple 6" openings at 35 yards. Ill be using the mod lead full steel choke and using #2 over dekes and bb for geese.

I love the 10ga

Great to know! I tested my Gold 10 for function but unfortunately I haven't patterned it. I was planning to use the factory mod choke. I’ll be shooting 1 5/8oz 2’s and BB’s, which is an extra half ounce of shot travelling at about the same speed as the shells I normally use in my 12g. Looking forward to see if it translates into more opportunities while pass shooting where I would normally just bird watch

Well, the 10g certainly earned its reputation for a reason. I took 2 geese on its first three shots. Could have potentially had a triple, but I got caught admiring the two birds falling that I missed the third shot big time. Shots we taken in the 35-40 yard mark and there was no doubt the birds were crushed on impact. Once the morning hunt ended, I patterned the IC and Mod choke and I was really happy with how both patterned so I’ll continue to use the factory mod choke. Recoil is also very manageable. I didnt really notice a difference between the 10g and the 12g with 3.5” shells. The extra 2 lbs will do that, I guess

I find the 10s pattern better with bigger payloads then 12s. Thats the advantage. Theyre also softer shooting due to weight and that weight smooths out your swing and avoids stopping the muzzle or muzzles as i hunt with a sxs as well. I decided to work ot instead of getting out this week. Not alot moving and the fields i could have hunted still have standing corn. Day of ot pays for a flat of 10ga shells

This is one of the main reasons I bought the Gold 10. Also the reason why I bought the Mossberg 935....while only a 12g the barrel is over-bored to 10g dimensions and the patterns, particularly with larger shot, are phenomenal.

Pass shooting with T shot! I rarely find a T shot pellet in any of the geese I’ve shot with one. I guess its because the pellets pass through. The few that remain are very easy to find which is why I like that size so much as I grind most of the meat and there is nothing worse on a meat grinder then feeding it steel shot

I cant even find T shot in stores lol. My local guy has a decent amount of turkey loads for the 10 but only blackcloud #2 and another brand of bb for steel shot

Id like to pick up some slugs and buckshot as well

I have also have a SP-10 and love it. Previous owner had camo tape which I removed this year after owning it for 4 years now. It came with a rifle sighted barrel as well which I hunt deer with. 1 3/8 oz slug is a lot of lead to send a deer's way!

As for waterfowl the gun came with a patternmaster tube, and it works well for me. Should really pattern it one day but it goes boom and birds fall out of the sky when I hit them haha. I have shot 2 turkeys with it when I have a chance to go out in the spring too.

I replaced the slide buffer o-ring and ordered 3 packs of 3 for spares if anyone local ever needs one let me know.

Thought about selling it since I bought a Benelli M2 but I just don't know yet, I like it too much.

Funny thing 1963beretta the 10 I bought came with almost a case of T shot and I had rarely seen it.Guess the old guy that I bought it from must have gotten a deal on it .Have 2 weeks until second goose opening I was away (in Ontario) for our first. Looking forward to my favourite field with the idiot skybusters on the end ,maybe they might stay home this year..:)
