Spanish civil war Mosin

I wish I'd found out who those badges belonged to. Might be able to nail it down even now. George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" is a good quick introduction to the craziness of the Spanish Civil War.

Got mine today. Has the MP8 cartouche on the left side of the stock. There seems to be a service number etched into the rear sight. The bore is moderately pitted but it has lots of somewhat rounded rifling. If only it could talk. I may just trade it for a wartime 99 dollar 91/30. Something I can fool around with without hurting a piece of history.

Congrats Dave. If you don't want it, you might want to put it up on the EE. Be interesting to see what you get for it. You also might want to add yours to the SCW database.

BTW I found a pic on the SCW web site of another badly struck Izhevsk arrow.

Was just taking mine apart tonight to give her a good long overdue cleaning and noticed this strange cartouch on the but and in the mag well area of the stock. Anyone have any ideas what it might means?

I put it up on the EE and traded it off for a Finnish M91 plus some cash on my end. I never lost on it , and simply wanted to pass it on to a collector.

Lorne - this is a relatively under reported stamp on some SCW mosins. You can learn more about it here:

http://scwmosin.weebly.com/mi8-stamp.html

The author of the 'The Spanish Civil War Mosin Nagant' site has asked that owners of such SCW mosins add it to his database as he is trying to document known features.
