I'm looking for some advice for a friend of mine. His dad has past away and left
him this gun that is currently registered as a non restricted with a barrel length of 470mm or greater. To transfer the firearm into his name he has to confirm back that no mods have been made to the gun and that all previous information is still the same. The only problem is the barrel length is 17.56".It has not changed from the original length.I guess it was never verified so it was just registered as 470mm or greater.

I told him what i would do.

What would you guys do?

No Modz

The rifle has not been modified since new. So unless you get a Mauser officianado on the phone; just transfer it as is. "Let sleeping dogs lie." If this option makes you nervous and the current barrel length is greater than what would be deemed restricted, just correct the error.

Mauser Carbine

Are you worried about the barrel being less than 18 1/2"?

The barrel length doesn't apply to a bolt-action rifle.

If they look it up on an FRT file a Spanish 1895 carbine will be listed as non-restricted. I just looked it up and the barrel length is 446mm no problems. When it is transferred it will be corrected.

It will be either manufactured by Lowe & Company, which is 1576-1 7mm, or 1576-2 in 7.62.

Or Fabrica de Armas, Ovedo, 1577-1, 7mm

Don't confuse it with the rule about center-fire semi-automatic firearms. They have to have a barrel of 18 1/2" or more to make them non-restricted.
